Viral dynamics in mild and severe cases of COVID-19
The mean viral load of severe cases was around 60 times higher than that of mild cases, suggesting that higher viral loads might be associated with severe clinical outcomes. We further stratified these data according to the day of disease onset at the time of sampling. The DCt values of severe cases remained significantly lower for the first 12 days after onset than those of corresponding mild cases (figure A). We also studied serial samples from 21 mild and ten severe cases (figure B). Mild cases were found to have an early viral clearance, with 90% of these patients repeatedly testing negative on RT-PCR by day 10 post-onset.
By contrast, all severe cases still tested positive at or beyond day 10 post-onset. Overall, our data indicate that, similar to SARS in 200203, patients with severe COVID-19 tend to have a high viral load and a long virus-shedding period. This finding suggests that the viral load of SARS-CoV-2 might be a useful marker for assessing disease severity and prognosis.

hat tip Jason Gale
Scientists have been unable to agree on what role asymptomatic transmission plays in spreading Covid-19.
The number of silent carriers people who are infected by the new coronavirus but show delayed or no symptoms could be as high as one-third of those who test positive, according to classified Chinese government data seen by the South China Morning Post.
I’ve been wondering where you’ve been.
We’re on the latest thread, here....

New York State Deaths 70
Lots of good info you’ve posted. Thanks.
Interesting about the viral load...and, the asymptotic *spreaders*.
No, it’s not you. Worldometers makes adjustments to their numbers, sometimes late, moving new cases/new deaths from one day to another. They moved a couple thousand cases from the 21st to the 22nd. Probably best to ignore daily totals until about 6 hours after 0800 UTC.
So I will be keeping up with and posting on this forum a bit more. Wife just got a call, we are quarantined due to a person at her work in the hospital with the China virus.
They are doing a deep clean tomorrow morning and it’ll be business as usual. They are a supplier for Whole Foods, Sprout Market and Publix.
I was wondering when this was going to really hit home. I knew it would happen but was hoping it wouldn’t. None of us are sick, none of us are showing any symptoms. I pray we do not get this nasty beast of a bug.
Well now they are just flat out lying. Noone said it took two weeks to develop symptoms.
