Question: I want to know why Hawaii Five-O has been canceled. Its been a hit since its first episode 10 years ago. It makes no sense to have a show that is so good and has great ratings to be canceled. Mary
Matt Roush: Networks dont always feel compelled to give a why when it comes time to ending a long run, but it usually has a lot to do with the business of show. While Hawaii is popular, and does well in the international market, any show becomes increasingly expensive over the long haul when it comes to renewing contracts, and already the show has shed many of its original players. According to the industry trades, stars Alex OLoughlin and Scott Caans contracts were up, and the last time this was the case, there was much speculation that OLoughlin would walk away in part because of on-set injuries. He stayed for another couple of years, but some trade reporters have suggested that this time, enough was enough, and while the network may have considered continuing the show with a new lead, they eventually decided this was a proper time to end. No fan likes to see a favorite show go off the air, but with the current exception of SVU and Greys Anatomy, no show lasts forever. (And whos to say if Magnum P.I. sticks around for a while that you wont see some of the Hawaii crew from time to time?)
But, I watched the show less frequently in the last few years...After Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park left...
Watch the last episode on April 3...Chuck Norris will be making an appearance...
I tried watching but after 15 minutes of one episode I gave up.
The O-riginal is still the best to me.
Figured that the new version was cancelled a long time ago. I hadn’t kept up.
Sometimes the cast gets too expensive.
“whos to say if Magnum P.I. sticks around for a while that you wont see some of the Hawaii crew from time to time?”
That has been happening on both shows.
Not happy to hear this! :(
My 10 year old Niece used to just hate Wo Fat. I have no idea if he is still on the later show. She now has kids almost grown.
Hawaii Five-O hasnt been on TV since 1979. Just like Magnum, P.I. hasnt been on TV since 1988.
Some shows should never be rebooted.

I think Jack Lord is dead.
The early couple of years were pretty good, but it went downhill in the writing, etc. Got boring, lack of real drama.
Jack Lord was a big gun control activist. He used the show to push it. One episode was just plain idiotic with the anti gun message.
Good show. Fun, good cast, pro-military.
I remember two — no — three things: 1) “Book him Danno” 2) Wo Fat 3) Jack Lord’s haircut (which as a young hippie at the time I though was really uncool).
I have given up watching networks stuff these days. To many sitcoms.
Am watching Flash Gordon on streaming now, watching some of the old Spike Jones shows, Jack Benny, Burns and Allen, Old Laugh In shows, etc.
Got to admit, there was some silly stuff back in those days. Funny though.

Daniel Dae Kim has coronavirus. But if he’s not on the show any more, that can’t be the reason for the cancellation.
The 5-0 guy was a jerk. Selleck cool.
The original series was better.
Most of the dramas from the 1970’s were better than anything today.
I’ll go out on a limb and cite lack of adequate viewership.
I must admit, I felt that the acting sucked. I could only watch a few episodes and that was it for me.
When a show has been on a long time the stars want bigger and bigger bucks.
Evidently they crossed the trigger point.
