Germany is calling up tens of thousands of reservists to help in the countrys battle against the coronavirus pandemic, Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer said Thursday.
The army began mobilizing its first batches of reserve troops over the weekend, said the minister, adding that it will next standby other reservist troops in through very targeted calls, and through a general call.
They would be used to help treat patients, resolve transport bottlenecks and provide support to police and local authorities as the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus soar.
Europes biggest economy has a pool of 75,000 reservists for whom the army has updated contact details, the minister said. [ ]
Out of all the confirmed cases since January, there have been a total of 105 recoveries. There have also been 28 deaths in Germany due to the coronavirus.

I was stationed here in Augsburg, Germany in the early '80s.
Standing outside in formation one time I thought how that antenna field looked like a big, juicy target from the air. Supposedly it was one mile around.
A minute or so later three Tornadoes come up behind us and flew right over the antenna field no more that a few hundred feet or so off of the ground. Scared the crap out of me.
Send them Italy which is overwhelmed with dead. The Germans make great crematoriums.
I can’t believe I said that!
