I've been following the Rush Limbaugh advice for years where he states that if you don't like what you're hearing on the news, don't participate in it. I will not watch any of he talking heads on the alphabet soup national "news" including FOX. It's sensory overload and very rarely, reporting.
Rather than stick my head in the sand, I've been following non-traditional reporting. One of the best political and social analysts I've found is on Twitter. His handle is @YossiGestetner
He has some of the analysys (IMHO) than what you'll find anywhere when it comes to the WuhanFlu.
What other alternative sources are you using for your news?
I implemented this policy twenty years ago, and get most of my news here at Free Republic, which I support with donations when I am able.
I'm helping to care for an aged parent, who watches MSNBC and CNBC. When I'm with him, I'm forced to watch those channels too. I can't believe the insanity, emotionalism, hype-mongering, and stupidity of the people to whom they give a soapbox. Also the number and length of commercial breaks is something I find intolerable.
Cable TV was originally promoted as "pay TV," which would have no commercials. Pretty funny.

Good point, I should have noted FR as well, but I am leery of some of the sources people link to and would apply this to me as well.
Agreed, I remember when you paid for cable, it meant no commercials. Now, most channels are worse than the networks. Especially when they show a decent movie like Braveheart, etc.
Yes thank you, Interesting info.
You hit the nail on the head!!!
IMO some of your twitter fave’s logic ain’t great.
I’ve only watched them a handful of times but considering subscribing to OANN via YouTube or FB I believe for about $5 per month. They’re on DirectTV I know but not on my cable provider, Cox out of Omaha.
How so? He explains his position and will engage people if they question him.
Especially now since one of the reasons I have cable is to watch hockey and college football.
I rarely follow mainstream news anymore. It’s too untrustworthy and editorialized to be dependable.
The best defense (other than limited exposure) is your own brain. Don’t just digest what the media gives you, think through the “why”. Why is this news? Why do they think it’s important? What are they trying to tell you with this? A lot of it today is meant to boost viewership/readership, so it tends to be sensationalistic. Remember, too, it is a lot cheaper to set up a panel show and get people to share opinions than it is to send someone out to get the actual facts. That’s why you should ignore the talking heads.
If there’s hard news (i.e. on the scene), that’s fine but I wouldn’t waste my time with the opinionfest. It’s junk news at best, fake news at worst.
Agreed and making my point. @YossiGestetner has really taken Sean Hannity & Sen. Lindsey Graham to task for allowing Lindsey to talk about holding people like Joe Biden accountable but then congratulating him on his Super Tuesday win while doing nothing that he’s promised!!!!
Yeah, but I think there's a certain amount of professional suck-uppery that people like Hannity have to do in order to get big shots to appear on their show as guests.
If you don't lay it on thick, they'll go somewhere else, or just not come on TV.
I think Hannity maybe overdoes it a bit, but I've heard Rush Limbaugh do it to when has prominent people on his show, and he's as tough-minded as anyone when it comes to politicians and their BS.
I think I know what he would say, something like "when you have someone on your show, it's like you've invited him to come to your home, you want to make him happy he came, and want to come back."
That's just playing the media game. As long as we in the audience are aware of it, I'm inclined to accept it as "a cost of doing business," so to speak.
That said, I don't watch Hannity at all. I can't take his brown-nosing and interruptions.
It’s true the media does take the advice of H.L. Mencken been doing it for years.
Remember the radio program Men form Mars have landed what a hoot that was.

Thanks for sharing. I will check it out.
I have not been able to get into my Rush Limbaugh Website account all weekend. I even rest my password but it still tells me to buy a new subscription. Has anyone else had this problem?
