Todays CG is from yesterdays Arkansas Gazette. Im sorry for not posting it, but in all honesty, it stumped me. I tried it again this morning, and it opened up like a peacocks feathers.
PEV MSU OEFFUOM FEV KC VKXL CXMXLU TU WK QKLOU MSEW MSU SEDDHUOM FEV KC VKXL DEOM. HLHOS MKEOM
The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated.
PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and any tips you might give the group on how you solve these puzzles as puzzle solvers love to hear how you made out.
You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for todays Cryptogram.
If you're just starting out on these, be patient, as you'll be proficient in no time.
If you need a little help you can copy the cryptogram and paste it to Hals Helper below:
You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper.
Today’s CG really stumped me. I even tried HAL, and couldn’t crack it.
I came back to it, without HAL, and she opened up pretty fast when I went with my instincts.
The only clue I’ll give you is, what you think is the word “THE” is, and “UOM” (the suffix of two words), is what you think it is.
Solution to our last puzzle:
HOWEVER CRAZY YOU MAY THINK IT IS, THERE IS A PLACE FOR WHAT YOU WANT TO DO AND WHO YOU WANT TO BE. DAVID BOWIE
2 min.
2nd word, 11th word, go.
Had a pint too many? Did you mean to send that to your ping list? :)
Well, you’re a lot smarter than me.
Naah, I’ve been stumped LOTS of times.
Every once in awhile, your brain just doesn’t see it like usual...
Day late and a dollar short???? <: <: <:
Got a ‘kick’ when ‘sure’ vowels eliminated themselves.
Sorta ‘late’ this AM, though maybe you were following the ‘guidelines’ of no gathering of 10 people.....HMMMM
Thanks for your efforts on these daily ‘tasks’...
Optimistic guessing on the short words will eventually open it up.
That wasn’t so very bad. I figured out what was going on once the first word became clear. But I guess it did take 6-7 minutes.
I know, and it would have been if Nikos1121, had figured it out. At least the day before was a bit of the blarney.
I was able to get this one OK. However like you sometimes when I am stumped I have to put the puzzle aside for a couple of hours and then come back to it. That works every time. However once in a blue moon I may have to put the puzzle aside for a 2nd time.
When I’m stumped, I plug it into Hal, and it works every time. Almost always, the most frequent letter is “E”...This time Hal didn’t work.
When I saw the two words with the same ending, it told me, it has to be one of only three or four.
Like you there are key things I look for. The, that and E are some of those I look for. A few others I will not reveal for competition purposes. hehehehehe
Took me awhile to get going on it. PEV and FEV ended up being the key for me.
Wonder Bread it ain’t.
