Executive order closing private businesses. Where does this authority come from?
Minnesota trying hard to be one of the “cool kids.”
Trump has given governors broad ability now to make decisions for their states regarding this virus crisis.
Trump has the authority to delegate control of private industry to governors?
Walz is in a no-lose situation here.
If he’s right and doing this helps slow the possibility of transmission of the virus, he’ll be regarded as a savior of sorts.
If he’s wrong, all he needs to say is “I erred on the side of caution. I erred on the side of the health of the residents of Minnesota”
And lastly, “I erred on the side of the kids”.
No Democrat could ever pass up on an opportunity to say that thy were doing it for the kids. Trust me, he’s no exception to that rule.
From the general population's willingness to accept it.
The book Crisis and Leviathan by Robert Higgs details how government grows with every "crisis". Once the crisis is past, they back off on some of the government over-reach, but never back to pre-crisis levels.
Breaking yesterday.
The good news is that all the laid-off workers will be able to get jobs in all the industries that will have to move back here from China.
It’s Saint Patrick’s Day.
GAELICPHOBIA! I *DEMAND* REPARATIONS!
‘Where does this authority come from?’
from us; because we allow it...
The declaration of a national emergency for a pandemic gives local, state and federal government power to restrict movement, prohibit public assembly, shut travel and public businesses. It is one small step away from martial law. Most people have zero clue how much power these emergency declarations carry all of them have hundreds of years of approvals by the supreme court lawsuits are pointless they have been dealt with years ago. Strap in this is the once in a lifetime experience. Thank God the adults are finally in charge with 30+ year scientific experts deciding what needs to be done and not arm chair epidemiologists. Its better than 50/50 we see martial law declared my money would be on three weeks till martial law declared if the exponential growth phase keeps up by the middle of April we will be out of hospital beds and the army will be making MASH units and enforcement of movement restrictions, and for that you have to have martial law to void posse comitatus.
‘Trump has the authority to delegate control of private industry to governors?’
in a word, yes...because it is in fact happening...
I have been asking this very question. Under what authority can a gov just suspend constitutional rights? Im fairly certain the answer is they cant. This fact makes following these edicts very very dangerous to liberty as this is setting precedent. There is principle that indicates if you wave rights or do not assert them you lose them. This greatly concerns me that private citizens are following these orders as if they carry the weight of law. The people should insist these executive orders be clearly branded as suggestions or requests and NOT mandatory enforceable actions.
And no politician will publicly oppose him on it for fear of being branded as putting profits above the people's safety.
Another liberal stronghold toes the line.
No way in the farthest stretch does this BS meet the Constitutional requirements for martial law.
Restaurants and bars... - we have local Drive-In movie and its not opening on schedule, now that hurts!
Iowa is closing restaurants too. Give it a day and the rest of the country will be doing the same. Not a big deal in my opinion. Most restaurants are pretty much closing anyway and moving to curb side and take out.
After the declaration of national emergency these do carry the weight of law. Read up on some history the USA has a long history of forcing private business to do things in time of national needs. we also have a history of taking property during economic crisis. People are rushing to buy gold and silver. They seem to have forgot that more than once in our history gold has confiscated from private holdings and forcibly exchanged for US treasury notes. The Supremes upheld it as well.
