This isnt a hoax. We need to take extreme short term measures to combat this virus. I do agree with others, though, that beyond a few months we will have to find a way to bring the economy back to life or the cure will be worse than the disease.
As for the economy, I have no doubt that President Trump, who has a proven record on making the economy better, is a far better choice for leading the recovery than say, a communist, or a dotard, or a harpy whose main accomplishments were based on whom she married.
Talking to Italy is merely covering the italian base
The charge of not hearing italy can’t be leveled by hysteric democrats and their gullible Republican counterparts
It could be. I pray it doesnt happen. But the risk it could is very real. Like I keep saying, the rate limiting factor, the bottleneck, is acutely ill patients arriving in the ER. If we have 5,000 hospitals and most of them cant handle over one an hour and only the really big ones could even try to handle ten an hour things could get messy.
Since the first known case was in November... you likely didn't have the dreaded virus.
The Diamond Princess was a Petri dish of infected people with a very large (in proportion) of the elderly on board. When you have infected workers cooking, cleaning rooms, and large groups of individuals socializing, you greatly increase the chances of transmitting it to the others on board.
Ever heard of Typhoid Mary? Some municipalities have been forced to actually arrest those that have been infected by very infectious diseases to keep them from infecting others. The infected person adamantly refused to self-isolate.
Its gonna be messy. Roughly, to over run every hospital in the country would take a huge number of new seriously ill every day. If we have 5,000 hospitals and 300 can take ten an hour and the rest can average 2 thats less than 15,000 per hour. Thats 360,000 new cases a day. We will never have that many. Half that is 180,000 new cases a day. To generate that would require some 18 million new cases a day. To me this is obviously worst case scenario but i think it does indicate that there is an excellent chance even worst case we can do it. If the ER can do ten cases an hour and get them out in 5 days a thousand bed hospital could almost keep up. If it did nothing else.
We can do this. I wouldnt want to be a nurse or doctor in the next month and a number will probably die but we can do this.
And before anyone gets snarky on my math, remember dead patients dont require as much hospital days as recovered ones.
Easy answer. Either their equipment sterilization process for the ventilators is flawed or they are using the equipment improperly.
The medical community has made recent discoveries that certain brands/types of ventilators had inhalation pressures that were difficult to adjust and were causing issues with patients.
I'm 86, so the laser red dot is right between my eyes. Had to take Wifey to the hospital last week for an operation on her hand.
Yesterday a.m. woke up with a full throat and thought "Oh oh". Gone now, so who knows? Gotta go into town today, so it will have another crack at me. Think a lot of reporting is just hysteria-with-an-agenda, but will be liberal with some leftover hand sanitizer. :-)
Yes, I was reading about that earlier today.
One theory is that you can be infected by a cold virus of a strain you've already been exposed to, and which therefore is quickly recognized by your immune system. The virus begins to do its work on you, but your immune system mobilizes and wipes it out quickly.
Those statistics would indicate to me the following:
Total crew and passengers Diamond Princess around 3,370 onboard
696 infected /3370 total onboard = 20% infection rate.
7 deaths /332 recovered or died- so far= 2 % death rate for that group.
(the death rate should go down for the recuperating group.) - Tom
The oldest people on the Diamond Princess were at least healthy enough to go on a Cruise. The oldest people in the nursing home in Washington State and in Italy may have been bedridden people with very frail bodies functioning at a low level. A freeeper who has been in the WA nursing home reported that it had quite a few very sick people there.
