ROME The death toll from an outbreak of coronavirus in Italy has risen in the last 24 hours by 349 to 2,158, an increase of 19.3%, the Civil Protection Agency said on Monday.
The total number of cases in Italy, the European country hardest hit by the virus, rose to 27,980 from a previous 24,747, up 13%, the slowest rate of increase since the contagion first came to light on Feb. 21.
However, the head of the agency said they were still awaiting data from the southern region of Puglia and the northern province of Trento.

I read somewhere (thought it was here) that many of the Italian leather and other goods manufacturers sold their local businesses to Chinese investors from Wuhan. They’ve been coming in and out of the northern Italy region, spreading the stuff like wildfire.

Perspective:
China, population 1.4 Billion, 80,000 infections, less than 4,000 dead
Italy, population only 60 million, 28,000 infections, 2158 dead.
China infection rate : 0.00005714285
Italy infection rate : 0.00046666666
If China had the same rate of infection as Italy, they would have had a massive 650,000 infections by now, instead of just 80,000.
Italy is doing something wrong. No other country comes even close to Italy in rate of infections or death.

No other country comes even close to Italy in rate of infections or death. Most countries took extreme measures to stop it's spread once it took hold. Italy did not...they waited too long. That's the difference.

The title should read total deaths, not daily deaths.Too late...it was intentional.

Italy has the largest Chinese population in all of Europe.

Chinese New Year is the world’s largest human migration, as Chinese from abroad return home to be with families.
That’s why it has spread like it has.

I'm just being honest with you so you understand the problem.
You're an idiot who has no clue what the hell you are talking about. You take a snapshot in time with out any context and claim it predicts the future. 7000 dead world wide after several months does not make an exponential explosion. I have a little 8 year old niece with more sense then you.

His PhD from MIT in Bio Engineering is nullified by the fact that he is a pro-Trump Republican. So all his scientific credentials are automatically canceled.

Listen if you listened to President Trump and the nearly daily press conferences that his corona team does you would hear them saying the exact same things I'm saying. I'm not making it up. It's up to you.

Looks like Italy is selling out it’s people and its industrial base to China too. Sad.....

Italy is doing something wrong. No other country comes even close to Italy in rate of infections or death.
What are factors that are making things go so badly in Italy?
Just brainstorming here...
- An elderly population, huge relative number of people in the 70-100 range.
- Extensive smoking history of that elderly population
- Large number of people living in apartment buildings where exposure through elevators, hallways, stairways, ventilation is possible.
- Large number of people relying on public transportation (trains, buses, metro, etc.) where exposure possible.
- failure to shut down events, restaurants, nightclubs soon enough

Northern Italy’s medical system is very good, possibly the best in Europe. According to reports from doctors in the hospitals, they have plenty of young people, even teens, on ventilators.
