Not sure I fit in here anymore ...

Posted on 03/16/2020 8:43:03 AM PDT by GulfMan

Before you look up my account and call me a noob I have been here since Clinton was President, just under a different user name. I haven't posted in a week or so, I've just been reading and lurking. It has really been an awakening recently to say the least.

I am surprised and maybe even a little shocked by my fellow Freepers. I really kind of thought we were all kind-of like minded (ya, I know, conservatives).

We have the "FluBro's" who are in total denial of what is happening world-wide. It reminds me of the other party and their inability to see and or face the truth and I am just so surprised by that. They are the exact kind of people Italy is warning us about in a new article today. In the fact, the entire nation of Italy scoffed and laughed it off, now they warning us not be like them. I think there are too many in this country like that however, I just spoke to a real estate person in Gulf Shores who said the place was booming, as grandparents/parents were taking their kids down for vacations since school was cancelled. Not a clue.

We have the folks supporting the guys from Tennessee who drove around the country and bought up all of the supplies that people would want to protect themselves from the virus only to list those products on Amazon at outrageous prices were completely justified in the name of free enterprise. Imagine being the type of person that sees a crisis and their plan is to exploit people for money during those times, and then to have other people support them?

We have those who say they will refuse to quarantine and won't be told what to do and want all kinds of places to remain open. It's like cantankerous old coots who are stuck in their ways and feel their freedom trumps everyone and everything around them, they owe their brother nothing. I'm embarrassed in part to be in the same boat as many on this forum. The constant arguing between those that know this is a serious situation and the FluBro's is tiresome.

That said, this is the best site for following the Coronavirus outbreak as people are local everywhere and sharing local news we wouldn't get anywhere else. I will continue to lurk for sure.

I hope everyone stays safe and pray this passes quickly, that as few as possible die, and the economy rebounds strongly, and we get back to living the American dream.

God Bless

I can understand difference of opinions but it has been a little viscous around here. Post in most any coronavirus related news thread showing concern and it’s like being one of those poor souls that gets jumped on by a dozen “teens”. So some people started their own dailyish coronavirus threads, shoved into a corner like the Q threads. That’s fine I guess because they don’t seem to mind in either case, yet there are people who will go into that corner and mock and ridicule the people that separated themselves to try and keep things peaceful around here. The Daily coronavirus thread #17 devolved into 3-4 people arguing among each other and knocking the long time coronavirus thread posters last night and some nice, thoughtful people finally had enough and bailed.

At some point, the puzzle pieces will fall into place and we will all see the truth (i.e., how the virus has affected the US). Until then, I would keep an open mind and not be frustrated by varying opinions. Keep in mind that absolutely nobody knows for certain what is going to happen. People with opinions are just making predictions based upon the facts they have seen and reasoned over.

There is a huge difference between stating an opinion and leaving it at that compared to going out of their way to slap down every other opinion. Too many here with differing opinions have suddenly decided their opinion is all that matters and drone on and on and on and on and on thread after thread after thread. They are intentional with their disruptions, not just stating another side to the topic.

That’s because that flu affected younger people by amping up their immune system response...essentially overstimulating their immune systems. COVID-19 is not doing that.

GREAT post. Its as if there’s a divide. On one side are those who are reasonable and fact-based. On the other side, I’m sorry to say, are those who are as opinionated as those on left.

Here’s the reality, from this site I learned about on FR. Everyday I go there, scroll down to “Total Coronavirus Cases in the United States” and change the graph to logarithmic. Since I started a few days ago, it has been a straight line. This means the cases are increasing EXPONENTIALLY and will EXLODE if there is not a change soon.

Then I scroll down to “Total Coronavirus Deaths in the United States” and do the same thing. This is also a straight line, but with less slope. This means DEATHS WILL INCREASE EXPONENTIALLY BUT AT A LOWER RATE THAN CASES. In other words, the percentage of people reported infected who die will decrease.

I also go here which I also learned about on FR and see the US is 12 to 16 days behind Italy. Italy’s logarithmic lines are starting to have less slope, meaning the severe and NECESSARY measures they took a week or more ago are starting to have an impact.

I do hope the actions being taken work and the ignorant Freepers say to us “See I told you it was nothing.” I am not using “ignorant” in any derogatory manner, but in the meaning of “unknowing”. Being that 80% of cases are mild, people are contagious at 2 days (I think) but symptoms don’t show up for 4 to 10 days, this WILL get worse for the next week even if no currently infected person infects someone else (which is not going to happen).

I know not everyone accepts this, but a man I know with a prophetic gift said “During that Head of the Year 5780 gathering on September 26-29, 2019, I began to prophesy that the nations would come into turmoil until Passover. At Starting the Year Off Right [ffirst week of January] 2020, God was saying that there would be a massive plague-like invasion that would test us through Passover.” Passover is April 8 maybe to April 16. So we’ve got 3 to 4 weeks to go.

I found out about this article Thursday evening on FR, Coronavirus: Why You Must Act Now and I saw this guy was right. I see the graphs comparing to Italy are on it. I even sent this article to a university president who hadn’t yet cancelled school.

I encourage you to have forbearance and patience with others. They will come around just like Rudy Gobert, the NBA player who on Monday deliberately and mockingly touched the microphones, and on Wednesday shut the entire NBA down when the positive test results came in. They will come around just like many pro-Cruz never Trumpers. The TRUTH is out there — on Free Republic — but they haven’t taken the time to find it, don’t understand it, or don’t yet believe it.

When you have free speech, you have a much wider range of opinion, and that includes moronic opinion. That’s the beauty of this forum; the discussions and debates start to whittle down the utter moronity, acquaint you with the habitually moronic posters and their agendas, and highlight the reasonable posters who include links and citations to back their opinion. All of it serves as education to those who don’t know what to think and can benefit from hearing multiple points of view.

The alternative is what we are seeing with the left and the news media: only one narrative is permissible, no matter how wrong it may be.

I know what I choose.

Those who take the positions you are citing often have sound reasons for doing so based on the Constitution. You may disagree with their reasoning, but they are appealing to the Constitution.

I disagree, but nicely. If we had focused on mitigation for at risk populations, while implementing sensible protocols for everyone else to go about their business, we would have greatly reduced the panic and the rush to shut everything down. As it is now, we are actually prolonging this by preventing normal herd immunity cycles throughout human history.

Another incomplete statement! I voted for Cruz for Senate but do not support him for President. So, one can support Cruz but for the right office. He now gets along very well with Trump. Maybe he will get a SC position one day.

I flew last week. OMG! Still feeling fine but will probably spout enormous warts and die of coronavirus next week.....

Not sure I fit here anymore. Seems like FR has become infected with Screaming Weenies of Doom. Last thing we need to do is shut down the USA for months. Unlike the media, lots of us can’t work from home. Cars need repairs, garbage needs collecting, supplies need to flow - and be sold.

Turn off your TV and get on with life!

An Opus that ends with "I will continue to lurk here" isn't really an Opus at all. It's more like taking a break from posting and there's nothing wrong with that. I go into lurk mode every now and then myself, especially when I have other things in my life going on and don't want to get into it with people on the Internet I don't even know!

Personally I think that this might be a case of the cure being worse than the disease. In my area, I have school systems shut down, likely until next fall. I see Sunday morning traffic during rush hour. Businesses are closed or running on skeleton crews. This is going to be devastating to our economy in the short term.

I know we will recover over time. But a lot of people will feel negative short term impact financially, especially those who work in entertainment, in restaurants and bars, etc.

I think a better approach would have been to quarantine the elderly and other high risk classes of people. They rest of us younger and healthier folks can shake it off if we happen to get it.

The above statement is null and void if there is something they are not telling us. That's what I probably worry about the most. What are they NOT telling us?

We did not have this kind of reaction in 2009 when the Swine flu infected 60,000,000 worldwide and killed 12,000+ in the United States alone.

So something just seems a bit off here. I can only conclude that there is more to this than meets the eye.

I've noticed more of this kind of trolling from really old accounts lately. The Coronavirus is real, the DNC-media-shill-pumped hysteria is not the same thing as the virus.

Let’s suppose, for the sake of argument, that 1 million Americans died. That would be tragic. It would also be 0.3% of our population. 99.7% would still be alive.

Unless, of course, we starve to death because food supplies don’t flow because the government is in panic.

Stupid vanity. Just go back to lurking.
