Johns Hopkins professor says up to 500,000 Americans have coronavirus

"Don’t believe the numbers when you see, even on our Johns Hopkins website, that 1,600 Americans have the virus,” he said. “No, that means 1,600 got the test, tested positive. There are probably 25 to 50 people who have the virus for every one person who is confirmed.”

Well, we can see where there is 25 there are soon 125.

This is the stupidest article so far (but the day is young). First, this “doctor” multiples confirmed cases by 25-50, then, for good measure, takes that number and multiplies it by 10.

A wild guess is not the same thing as an estimate. However, a big number does make a good headline.

The most profound prognostication since Surgeon Buck Private Joycelyn Elders prophesied that “we’re all probably going to die from something some day.”

She was a big Eric Clapner fan.

I can only assume that he/she is just another over educated dummy with a whole lot of useless knowledge.

The ChiCom virus is far more contagious and deadly than the flu.

We do not know if either of those assertions are true. The best we can say at this point is that the unprecedented media hype has made it seem that it is more deadly and contagious than the flu. And in this political climate that is not saying much.

We’ve panicked ourselves into a real economic crisis.
The pandemic itself has had very little impact so far. Hospitals are not overwhelmed, deaths are not high, resources are not running out. The fear got us. Not the disease.

You’d better prepare to be flamed by the panic trolls here. For the past week, any attempt to discuss information which points away from the worst case, “we are all going to die” scenario is derided as delusional and unscientific. The dopamine reward for hysteria must be at an all time high in the US. When freedom is extinguished from the Republic, it will come through a public health panic and 99% of Americans will submit meekly to their masters and I guess the 1% will be killed by the hysterical, newly minted serfs.

If it turns out that a lot more people have it than they think do, then it means the mortality rate is a lot lower than we think it is.

Because we weren’t hit with the original SARS-CoV-2 virus, there may be a lot of carriers and don’t know it. Even less aware if they aggressively practice decent hygiene and keep their “social distance” of six feet.

Many of us have been saying this for more than a month. You CANNOT calculate the mortality rate unless/until the number of infected is known.

Perhaps.

However, I can’t stress this enough, THERE IS NO VACCINE.

The people that are dying are mostly older people or people with chronic but survivable health issues. The same people get yearly flu shots.

Not this time. There isn’t a vaccine.

There are several youtube videos from Italian doctors--on the ground in Italy. Watch some of them, see what they say.

Thy are seeing people as young as early 20s-no comorbidities--ending up with dual pneuomonias and needing assistance breathing.

Once someone improves enough they and they take them off ventilator, they pray they don't slip back (which often does) because they won't have the ventilator to give back to them.

And every single one of them should have been zotted. They are doing nothing except assisting the democrats and the media.

The clickbait claim in the title is a lie.

He doesn’t know how many have it, and for that matter, nobody does.

He added: “I think we have between 50,000 and half a million cases right now walking around in the United States.”

He is guessing.

Not to get into a flame war...but how do you think the CDC comes up with flu infections? Do you think they did 35,500,000 tests last year? Or is it coincidence that is 10% of the US population.

This who epidemic business is all “educated” guesses....until the tests are done.

Both sides of this argument rely on sketchy information and they use assumptions and estimates more than either side is willing to admit.
