EXCLUSIVE: 'Surge' of coronavirus lies from adversaries seeking to blame U.S. floods web

China, Russia and Iran are flooding the global information space with false claims about the new coronavirus, according to U.S. officials, who say one of the biggest lies — that the virus that causes COVID-19 is a U.S. bioweapon and was brought to China by U.S. Army personnel — is just the latest in a “surge of propaganda” aimed at undermining America’s image on the world stage.

Beijing, Moscow and Tehran are using a vast web of social media accounts, fake news outlets and state-controlled global satellite media to promote false claims by academics and, at times, government officials to blame Washington for the crisis now gripping most of humanity.

The head of a key State Department counterdisinformation office said U.S. officials are ramping up their own efforts to counter lies about the new coronavirus that were first seeded by Russia in January and that China is now pushing in a bid to make Beijing appear as a superior global power to the United States.

U.S. Special Envoy Lea Gabrielle, who leads the department’s Global Engagement Center, told The Washington Times on Sunday that the Chinese are “engaged in an all-out aggressive campaign to try to reshape the global narrative around the coronavirus, essentially to the degree of trying to provide an alternate reality of what has actually happened since December.”

Ms. Gabrielle made the assertion in an exclusive interview amid a widening row between Washington and Beijing that burst into public view last week when the spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry suggested on Twitter that the U.S. military might have brought the coronavirus to the Chinese city of Wuhan.

IMO, there are certain critical supplies, medical supplies and pharmaceuticals being two, that should be required to be manufactured in the United States - at least in large part.

The entire health industry needs to go through a Reagan style deregulation geared toward increasing competition and tort reform.

And another thing, why do we need the FDA when thousands of lawyers are ready to chase down and collect on any manufacture who produces a defective drug or medical device?

I agree with all of your points (or semi-accusations) on post #2. The Globalists (and their Media toadies) will do all they can to bring down President Trump and America.

That said, China has been the traditional source for many of these epidemics - so why all the hurt feelings on this one? The Black Plague, the Spanish Flu (poor Spain, this one apparently originated in China), the Hong Kong Flu, SARs, Avian Flu, Swine Flu, -- I believe all of these sprang out of China. The dense population, and less than hygienic conditions, makes a 'good' cauldron for viral soups. Nothing personal, just the way it is...

Well, I don’t think it was brought to China, but it could have been stolen by China from a US bio-weapons research lab. People are fooling themselves if they think these facilities don’t exist here and in every other powerful country.

It does make one wonder. China releases a virus on it’s own people with the majority already vacced. They lose a lot to look like someone else did it while sending infected sleeper agents everywhere else. china looks innocent in the process and the rest of the world dies off.

Ask your Chinese acquaintances - has a single one of them had the flu? I asked mine. Not a one. Describe the symptoms - muscle aches, being bed-ridden, near-pneumonia-type experiences. I’m gonna bet that the worst they’ve had is a bad cold. I’ve had the flu once, and most of my non-Chinese acquaintances have have had it many times. But not a single one from among my Chinese acquaintances. My guess, as I stated earlier is that they are inured to a bunch of creepy crawlies originating in the region because their ancestors were resistant. The Chinese in antiquity who were not resistant are extinct and left no issue. As a result, covid-19 will be way more devastating outside of China, in the same way that the Spanish flu caused barely a ripple in China, while killing tens of millions outside the country:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_flu#Hypotheses_about_the_source
[One of the few regions of the world seemingly less affected by the 1918 flu pandemic was China, where there may have been a comparatively mild flu season in 1918 (although this is disputed, see Around the globe). There were relatively few deaths from the flu in China compared to other regions of the world.[26][27] This has led to speculation that the 1918 flu pandemic originated from China.[28][27][29][30] The relatively mild flu season and lower rates of flu mortality in China in 1918 may be explained due to the fact that the Chinese population had already possessed acquired immunity to the flu virus.[31][28][27]

In 1993, Claude Hannoun, the leading expert on the 1918 flu for the Pasteur Institute, asserted the former virus was likely to have come from China. It then mutated in the United States near Boston and from there spread to Brest, France, Europe’s battlefields, Europe, and the world with Allied soldiers and sailors as the main disseminators.[32] He considered several other hypotheses of origin, such as Spain, Kansas and Brest, as being possible, but not likely. Political scientist Andrew Price-Smith published data from the Austrian archives suggesting the influenza had earlier origins, beginning in Austria in early 1917.[33]

In 2014, historian Mark Humphries argued that the mobilization of 96,000 Chinese laborers to work behind the British and French lines might have been the source of the pandemic. Humphries, of the Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John’s, based his conclusions on newly unearthed records. He found archival evidence that a respiratory illness that struck northern China in November 1917 was identified a year later by Chinese health officials as identical to the Spanish flu.[34][35]

A report published in 2016 in the Journal of the Chinese Medical Association found no evidence that the 1918 virus was imported to Europe via Chinese and Southeast Asian soldiers and workers. It found evidence that the virus had been circulating in the European armies for months and possibly years before the 1918 pandemic.[36] ]
