I disagree. Look at what’s happening in Italy. Death toll still climbing. It was business as usual for most of them 7-14 days ago, and it’s gotten much worse.

There are a lot of idiots out there (millennials particularly) who aren’t taking this seriously. There were stories yesterday of packed bars and St Paddy’s Day pub crawls in full swing. There is community spread happening in San Francisco and San Jose. Knowing that, who crams like a sardine into a crowded bar of 200 people? A fool. And there are apparently a lot of them.

No, it’s not. Asking 65+ to self isolate was the right call but the rest could have taken less drastic action like half the # of normal customers. We are going to have a global depression (not recession) in the next two months if this keeps up much longer. How many restaurants, hotels, airlines, retail stores, etc can withstand a 50-100% drop in revenue for a few months? Hint: Not many. And you are talking 10+ million of jobs, and that’s not counting the domino effects (those losing their jobs stop spending, default on debt, stocks collapse to lower than 2009 etc)

84% of Italy's deaths are 70+ with majority over 80. They also are being overwhelmed. Look at Germany, SK and many other countries with significantly lower hospitalization and death rates. What we need to do is have seniors self-isolate and those caring for them. Here is a great article on why different countries have different death rates

This is not just about your right to go somewhere.

This is also about the people you might spread it to, if you get it. The overburdened hospital that you're going to want treatment from when it turns out you didn't just get a mild case. The 70 year old man who is going to be denied a ventilator because you are younger and more likely to live.

This is not a time to think only of yourself and to claim any restrictions are tyrannical.

This will pass. It's temporary.

If you can't see the other side, you need to spend some time on your heart, because you don't have much of one.
