additional cases of the COVID-19 novel coronavirus. This brings the total number of cases statewide to 28.
As the states case counts expectedly increase, DHEC will publicly report information about facilities and locations that impacted communities should be aware of where special precautions may be needed.
We emphasize the importance of practicing disease prevention measures and following recommendations for social distancing to protect our community as a whole, said Dr. Linda Bell, State Epidemiologist.
Preliminary information for new cases
3 new cases reported from commercial labs
One new case is from Kershaw County. The case is a middle-aged daycare worker who has no identified source of exposure. This individuals onset of illness occurred after their last day worked. The case is currently isolated at home.
Two new cases are from Horry County. The cases are elderly individuals who had known exposure to a confirmed case of COVID-19 from another state. The cases are currently isolated at home.
6 new cases from DHECs Public Health Laboratory
Two new cases are from Kershaw County and are household contacts to a previously reported case. One case is an elderly individual who is hospitalized in isolation. The other case is a middle-aged individual and is currently isolated at home.
One new case is from Horry County and is an elderly individual. Investigation is underway and further details are not currently available.
Two cases are from Anderson County and are middle-aged individuals who have no identified source of exposure. Both cases are currently hospitalized in isolation.
One case is from Greenville County and is a young adult who recently traveled to Spain. The case is currently isolated at home.
Impacted facilities
One of the additional Kershaw County cases was a childcare worker of Bethesda Daycare. The individual was not ill while working and there are no known contacts at the childcare facility at this time. The source of this cases exposure is being investigated. DHEC is working with the center to provide guidance about infection control measures to prevent spread. However, the center was following the governors closure of schools in Kershaw and Lancaster counties and is not currently open.
On Friday, March 13 the childcare center voluntarily closed as a precaution after the governor issued school closures for Kershaw and Lancaster counties. We are working closely with this childcare facility to immediately investigate possible exposures at this facility, said Dr. Bell. The facility is completely cooperative and staff are abiding by DHECs and CDCs recommended actions for helping to protect this population.

says there are only about 600 ICU beds currently available in #NY.

65 used, 535 to go (not counting any currently filled ICU beds).
Bear in mind the used ones will eventually open up. Those folks will either die or recover. Either way the bed becomes available.
There are 159 counties in GA...are these counties cited here the only ones with cases? What is the (%)? Of what?
From this morning’s Gwinnett Post..
“”In all, there are now 99 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Georgia. Most of them are in metro Atlanta, with the largest numbers by far being seen in Cobb County (19 confirmed cases) and Fulton County (20 cases).
DeKalb has the third highest total with 10 confirmed cases, followed by Bartow County (nine cases); Cherokee and Dougherty counties (six cases each); Fayette County (five cases); Floyd and Gwinnett counties (four each); Coweta, Clayton, Clarke, Lowndes, Lee and Gordon counties (two each); and Newton, Charlton, Henry and Polk counties (one each).””
That mess at DFW airport the past couple of days may be the impetus forcing the Metroplex into lockdown mode a few weeks earlier than we otherwise would have.

More labs across the country are able to test for COVID-19. And now, Wisconsin clinicians can order tests without public health approval. Since tests are widely available, we will no longer report the number of people under investigation.

Futures went limit down...get ready for a wild ride
A couple of hours after rates dropped to almost zero . . .
I think it does matter where it came from.
Since I am not a scientist I am talking out of my back side.
But isn’t is possible that a virus that just naturally occurs might be different than one that is constructed to behave in a certain way..and perhaps generate certain mutations, etc.
Govt. leaders are acting in a very aggressive way like they know it is a bioweapon.
It really is something to watch.
Are we to become a totalitarian state in the fight against the virus.
If a Dem was a POTUS I would think he was taking advantage of a situation
It just seems to me some know there is something very bad about this.
I am confident that President Trump also knows this and is keeping his powder dry. I mean come on, what kind of satellite images of China is Trump looking at?
He has to dance delicately with China right now so they dont cut off all of our medications.
I expect a WWII type effort to start making our medications here again. If that is successful, you will see President Trump tell Xi where he can put his thermometer!
The only ones with tested cases. Upthread I posted a link to a hospital in Albany that has 41 cases in the hospital that are most likely cv, and many hcws sick, not enough testing.

Ah, sh&t, I have family in Albany. They run an indoor golf place, that as of yesterday was still open and taking bookings.
I really feel for those with severe anxiety, hypochondria, and/or depression. This is probably sending many into that abyss
I think we are going to see some really odd, and violent, behavior out of people as some lose their marbles.
I agree. I think the Chinese response told us that. They knew what was unleashed.
See my post at #610.
Anyone who coughs gets the look these days.
And once you start to have that tickle in your throat and want to suppress it..it is going to irritate you more.
Some blood pressure meds cause a cough. Lisinopril is one.
So now I am thinking..is that cough from Lisinopril..or Wuhan . ;-)))
In 5 days Italy will surpass China.
Lets not be Italy.
I am CERTAIN China has tons more cases and deaths than they will admit.
As a nation they have been awful. God bless those there who bravely fought to do right.
IL
SPRINGFIELD - The Illinois Department of Public Health today announced 29 new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) across Illinois. Five additional counties are now reporting cases Champaign, Clinton, Sangamon, Whiteside, and Winnebago counties. Other locations with cases include Chicago and Cook, Cumberland, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry, St. Clair, and Woodford counties.
We are seeing the number of COVID-19 cases increase exponentially and in more locations across Illinois, said IDPH Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike. At this point, it is best to assume that the coronavirus is circulating in your community and you should take the same precautions when interacting with other people that you would when interacting with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. This may seem like an extreme step, but this is how we reduce the number of new cases...
