16 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Kentucky; Beshear says one forced into isolation after patient refused

Gov. Andy Beshear announced there are 16 positive cases of COVID-19 in Kentucky in his Saturday press conference.

In addition to Harrison County, Jefferson County and Fayette County, cases have been confirmed in Bourbon County, Montgomery County and Nelson County/Meade County (one case has connection to both counties).

Gov. Beshear said the first instance of an individual who tested positive and refused to self quarantine has now happened as well. The Nelson County resident was forced into isolation after the person refused, according to Gov. Beshear.

Gov. Beshear also said that one person who tested positive is in "bad shape" and the expectation is that the person might not make it. He said that multiple factors led to that condition.

Gov. Beshear said he is asking child care centers to create a plan for closures that can be enacted in 72 hours if necessary.

He also has asked hospitals to end elective procedures by end of the day on Wednesday. He said it will be left up to the hospitals to determine what is elective procedures, but he expects to need the hospitals to be ready to deal with COVID-19-related issues.

Gov. Beshear urged people to share as he reflected on a young mom who had bought a eight month supply of baby formula.

"Let's be the best version of ourselves," he said.

Gov. Beshear said that more steps will be taken to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

“It is us, Team Kentucky, versus the coronavirus,” he said as he urged that all community gatherings be cancelled.

What does the LAW say on cases like this. You test positive for COVID-19 and are asked to go into quarantine. But you refuse?

I am not a lawyer, but I imagine there are lots of laws on the books regarding quarantine dating back at least to the “Spanish” flu. Modern courts might well be inclined to strike them down, but I can’t see that happening in the middle of this crisis.

Wasn’t ‘Typhoid Mary’ pretty much locked away, even though she technically didn’t commit a crime?

I am not going to go get any surgery that can be delayed a few months while this covid crap is on the uptick. Hospital acquired infections are a thing and I don’t feel like getting kicked when I’m already down.

Covid may not be particularly severe in most people, but trying to recover from a surgery and the Wuflu at the same time would be a tough row to hoe.

Most of the deaths I have seen in the US are from that nursing home in Washington State. Sure would like to know what ground zero was in that situation.

Then again we have not hit the peak here yet.

There are Federal mandatory quarantine laws on the books:

I could see a case being made for posing a public threat and jailed until otherwise. People refusing to be tested may be an issue. And I can see where people would avoid hospitals and docs if it might result in any know of quaratine (with some thus presenting in dire condition and putting a greater strain on the heath system then).

Federal quarantine law is provided in 42 U.S. Code Part G—Quarantine and Inspection. Under CDC regulations the government may apprehend, examine, detain and release [after they are disease free] individuals who have a communicable disease.

I know. It's the Wuhan flu. You can only catch in Wuhan, right?

Don’t know about Kentucky but most governors have extensive emergency powers. As well they should IMO

Do not be rude. To have that many in one place that early in the spread of the disease it is doubtful they were from the UK or NY.

Ground zero for the planet was the Far East.

Nothing usually on age, general health and health problems and race of the sick people.

If they supposedly tested positive, what test was used to determine if the Chicom Corona Virus was want caused the problem.

Lets say a person does isolate. If he/she needs something, do they send someone to bring that to them?

Or is this like the dark ages where they locked them up and let them die?

In Singapore, if you are positive but leave your house, its a 6 month jail sentence and a 10,000 dollar fine. In America no way would that EVER happen, the ACLU would come out and defend the person saying everyone has a right to leave their home

You said “Demographic information conveniently left out of most reporting...”

I noticed that too. The mainstream media does this on purpose because most those deaths are age 80+ as in the flu.

The mainstream media does this to create fear, panic and mass hysteria in the population.

There is a quote that goes something like “ In war fear is the most effective weapon” . This is a war . The news media is the enemy of the American people.

There were almost 20,000 U.S. deaths in the 2009 H1N1 swine flu but the media coverage was almost nonexistent. And the deaths for H1N1 in 2009 were probably higher because testing was not as wide spread.

During a regular flu season there are around 50,000 U.S. deaths per year. There have been around 50 U.S. deaths reported for the Corona virus.

"On February 10, 2018, Fortune reported that influenza in the United States was killing up to 4,000 Americans a week"

The unprecedented news media coverage this year is meant to scare businesses and individuals so much that they close up shop. It's a plan to destroy the economy for the election and get a socialist to defeat Trump. Keep in mind that during the Great depression economic growth only went down by 10% per year. I've never seen anything like this. This is just shutting down the whole economy.
