CLEVELAND (WJW) — The Cuyahoga County Court is looking to release hundreds of inmates from the Cuyahoga County Jail Saturday morning due to coronavirus concerns.
Judges concerned about the virus spreading through the jail.
Cuyahoga County judges are holding a special Saturday morning session to try to settle cases with guilty pleas, release inmates or send them to prison, or release them on house arrest.
Administrative Judge Brendan Sheehan told the I-TEAM earlier this week that inmates are already in poor health, and it wouldn’t take much for the coronavirus to spread wildly behind bars.
Sheehan also said almost any kind of inmate could be considered.
“You gotta remember, the goal of this is to protect the community and the safety of the inmates. If someone’s a serious violent person, well, we’re using our discretion to make sure the community’s safe also," he told the I-TEAM on Thursday.
Sheehan also said the jail may need empty space if some inmates have to be quarantined because of the virus.

I’ve seen more than a few “non violent” criminals in my life.
They’re “non violent” until they don’t get what they want or until someone gets in their way.
Then they’re plenty violent.
What about new ones? No jail time for anyone? This is a really messed up world!

Non violent DUI drivers cause more deaths than homicide and either cause a lot more than the yellow journalism coronavirus. Since death is 100%; investigating the claims of death’s conqueror is probably a better idea than a mask at the airport!
Their considered non violent because they haven’t been caught committing violence.................yet.
Is the county going to furlough the excess jail employees now that the work load has been drastically reduced or is it just extra leisure time for jail staff?

So now on top of everything else we’re gonna start setting criminals free.
Even if they got everything that they needed, they’re criminals.
Crime is what they do.
I’d like to believe some reform their ways but that can’t be adequately assessed right now.
