The coronavirus pandemic has prompted officials a number of Southern California schools to shut down beginning Monday in hopes of slowing the outbreak.
Among those involved in the closure is the Los Angeles Unified School District, the nation's second-largest school district.
The decision, which was announced after a closed-door meeting, was announced jointly on Friday morning with the San Diego Unified School District, the second-largest district in California.
The action was unanimously approved by both school boards, according to a joint statement from both districts, which together serves 750,000 students.
"California has now entered a critical new phase in the fight to stop the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, LAUSD Superintendent Austin Beutner and San Diego Superintendent Cindy Martin said in a joint statement. There is evidence the virus is already present in the communities we serve, and our efforts now must be aimed at preventing its spread. We believe closing the states two largest school districts will make an important contribution to the effort."
The LAUSD closure will last at least two weeks "while we evaluate the appropriate path forward," Buetner said in a separate email to employees.

Once LAUSD decided to shut down, other LA County districts decided to shut down as well.
In Orange County, schools are being closed as well.
Kern County is north of Los Angeles County...
The schools are not closed yet in Kern County.

Yes there has been a test, but our old rules concerning any test approval by the Obama/Biden thugs have kept this test out of America.
Thanks to President Trump that is changing.
Shares of Swiss drug maker Roche rise after FDA approval for corona virus test!
The company says the tests are able to provide results in 3-½ hours.
This approval for Roche means millions of tests a month will be available to help boost capacity for diagnosis of the flu-like virus.
Shares of Swiss diagnostics and pharmaceutical giant Roche rose 3% Friday after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued emergency authorization for their COVID-19 test.
These highly automated tests, which the company says are able to provide results in 3-½ hours, can be run on Roches fully-automated machines which are already installed in hospitals and laboratories across the U.S. and around the world.
Roche was the first company to supply tests to diagnose the coronavirus in China. The drug giant was able to lean on its experience dealing with the SARS virus outbreak which also originated in China. Speaking to CNBC in January, CEO Severin Schwan said the companys focus was to bring the necessary diagnostic platforms and test to the point of care.
Testing for the virus is one of the primary concerns in the United States at this stage. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a total of just over 11,000 specimens have been tested since January. By contrast, a total of almost 30,000 people have been tested for the virus in the United Kingdom, while nearly 20,000 people are being tested for the virus everyday in South Korea.
This approval for Roche means millions of tests a month will be available to help boost capacity for diagnosis of the flu-like virus.
Beyond diagnostics, Roche has also been involved in the fight against coronavirus complications. Earlier this month, China approved use of the Swiss drugmakers anti-inflammatory drug Actemra to treat patients with aggressive immune reactions to the virus.
We believe the U.S. health care system is facing issues regarding testing for COVID- 19 and the case count of patients infected are drastically underestimated, the Deutsche Bank health care team said in a research note.
Stocks in Europe rose across the board on Friday after experiencing the worst one-day fall on record. Roche shares had soared 11% in morning deals but had pared gains by the close alongside the wider market.
Maybe it will help stop the spread of their liberalism.
Naw...
Are the ski resorts open?
Starving children across the south land! If only schools hadn't dropped Home Ec a generation ago, their parents might know how to make a sandwich!Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
The false positive rate was 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's or one old farts life, it's worth it.
Source, please?
If it’s not true you shouldn’t be posting it on every thread.
Google it ... there is no COVID 19 test ... every “confirmed case” is a guess from a coronavirus test
Nope. YOU made the assertion, YOU back it up.
I went to the grocery store and it was almost empty. I thought Bernie Sanders had already been elected.
Not that kinda of Corona (beer) virus. The Democrat governor of Michigan Gretchen Witmer closed all K-12 schools for 3 weeks. There is only 5 cases 3 which are presumptive.
That’s not true. The tests were created only after COVID-19 was sequenced.
Stop the spread of liberalism... Haha that’s a good one...
They cancelled my kids school for a month... East of Fresno. Most districts around Fresno have cancelled.
Schools are closed for 4 weeks from San Diego to Oceanside as well.
Thanks, I appreciate the effort.
I haven’t seen any complaints about the CDC test not being selective for COVID-19, but only about it not being available, or not working at all.
K, that’s 1 hour rapid testing.
There already other tests in use, those just take longer. :-)
Per my stepdaughter (sadly a liberal), next week her babysitter will take the children to the school for their free lunch but it will be a sack lunch picked up curbside. My stepdaughter can afford to provide lunches but, hey, its free. Sigh.
Tell her the schools need to put those bus drivers to work dropping off the free grub!
