The inevitability of rolling power brown outs and black outs is exactly what the utility companies briefed to Pres. Trump 3-10-2020.
You're going to get called out otherwise.
Assume 90% of the country is incapacitated in some way. That leaves 34 million still doing ok. Further, assume 2/3 are either too old or too young. That leaves 10-12 million healthy, capable adults.
Don't think that is enough to keep power, water, fuel, foodstuffs and distribution still working - even on a skeleton basis?
But no, don't get in the way of a zombie orgasm. It's so close they can (literally) feel it.
The truth is that even if a crazy high number like 50% is reached, that still leaves over 150m people capable of performing critical tasks.
How many people know the 3, 3, 30 rule? You can survive 3 minutes without oxygen, 3 days without water and 30 days without food.
So, super simple question, how are resources allocated in a national emergency?
Like I said, while the flu-bros are annoying, like anyone going through the 5 stages, they'll eventually reach reality. But what of the zombie porn addicts who actually fantasize about disaster. That's some sick stuff.
Wake County (Raleigh) Public school teacher is Wake County's 10th case He/She lives in Fuquay-Varina, NC.
Wake County Public Schools will now close through March 27.
The Italian death rate is due to an overwhelmed health care system.
It is irrelevant to the operation of critical infrastructure.
The _only_ number that matters is the percentage of workers who will get critically ill.
So here are the Italy numbers:
1.518 serious/critical out of 21,157 cases = 7% which would be 7 workers off the floor in a plant of 100 people.
If one of the seven dies, or all seven die, it does not have any impact on plant operations.
The french guy who was upset there was no pasta.
Some folks come perilously close to doing that.
I also assumed that Italy is failing to test/count a whole bunch of people with no symptoms...even though their test rate is higher than any other country at this point.
Anybody with no symptoms works—and works until they drop.
“We used to laugh at grannys stash of 1000 rolls of tp and paper towels. Not laughing now. Ill never come close to equally her.”
A coworker of mine, born in Puerto Rico, mother still there. She was an old fart, didn’t trust banks (what an idiot), kept cash under the mattress. 2 hurricanes...power out for months, no ATMs, no credit cards.
Guess who was the most popular woman in town. And yes, she had several sons who never wondered far from her.
No argument from me. Her Dad and I have been trying to talk sense into her for a long time.
Hang in there LilFamer, you and your family are doing all the right things and you will get through this.
Are you watching Lookner? 9 cases on the Faroe Island, Denmark. That island is out in the big middle of nothing on the way to Iceland. They should have shut the island down weeks ago. Easy to contain with a major food shipment at the beginning and then rations.
“They cannot operate with as lean of a crew as we can here...And we arent even talking about the effects on line crews (they cannot work alone) or supply chain disruptions.”
Oh PLEASE, all we need is Mnunchkin adding some ‘liquidity’ into our powerplants and all will be fine...at least according to the Flubros.
High fever is the key to knowing whether you have the virus.
Hang in there. The mind is the worst enemy in these situations. The kid could very likely have the flu or another virus.

Israel PM Netanyahu:
—All gatherings of more than 10 people banned
—Israelis should stay 2 meters away from each other
—All cultural & entertainment venues (e.g. malls, cinemas, hotels, gyms) are closed
—Were in a war. Our enemy is the virus.
The possibility of rolling brown outs and black outs was briefed to the Dallas City Council Thursday (3-12-2020) by the Feds.
This information is being passed low key to people who are keeping in contact with the Dallas City Council liaisons— not blasted in the media.
However, there isn’t a Home Depot, Lowes or farm supply store within 100 mile of Dallas right now that has a portable electric generator. (Yes, I’ve looked)
You cannot find rifle clips/magazines without going mail order. (Again, personal experience)
And the liquor stores are as slammed as grocery store paper goods isles, judging from the parking lots.
“JUST IN: New Jersey has now seen a total of 69 presumptive positive cases of the novel coronavirus, up by 19 since Friday, Gov. Phil Murphy says “
Friday was, like, HOURS AGO, of course they’ll be more cases since then.
Texas has its own grid—you know that, right?
There would be no reason for the Feds to brief Texans on the status of their own grid.
If the Feds were talking to anyone about it, they would be talking to the Texas utility folks who would be briefing the Dallas City Council.
“One of the first things we bought after katrina was pool shock. (not the kind with algicide!).
Stored in a plastic bucket with lid.”
Mine is in mason jars - learned a big lesson regarding not sealing it up!
