Our family ROTATES the rice/dried beans/etc. to keep them from “getting funny”.

Further, I suggest that NOBODY “stock up on” things that you don’t like to eat.= Most everything that USA residents normally eat is available in “emergency packages” for long-term storage.
(Our family spent a lot of time in NETX & south LA & we do eat a lot of rice, beans, smoked neck bones, flour, cornmeal, etc., as a routine part of our diet.)

One of the “inside jokes” about East Texans is that we eat so many peas & beans that if you stuck a knife in us, that it would be pea/bean juice that would flow from the wound.
(When we lived in South LA, we often had dishes made with rice twice a day.)

May I suggest that you buy your “staples” in smaller packages so that the items are easier to “rotate”??
(Even as much rice as our crowd eats, I buy rice in 10# bags, which get “dated”.)
