New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is closing Broadway with almost immediate effect and is banning all gatherings of 500 or more people, as officials desperately try to contain the spread of coronavirus in the state where confirmed cases skyrocketed past 300.
Cuomo has said the lights will go out on New York's shows, in a landmark move that sees New York City close its biggest source of tourism for a month - the longest closure in its history and its first since 9/11.
This comes just hours after New York City's Mayor Bill de Blasio said New Yorkers should brace for historic measures coming today and tomorrow but insisted he did not want Broadway to 'go dark' because of the deadly outbreak.
Two schools in the Bronx shut their doors Thursday after a student contracted the virus and the Metropolitan Museum of Art also announced it will close its three sites across the city on Friday.

In a sewer where people live like termites in a mound....good luck.
If they shut down the subway they will effectively shut down the city. This seems like cosmetic action nothing more.
