Link saying Bolsanaro tests positive- but I may have been hasty posting- it doesn’t appear to be confirmed yet.
Interesting sign in Rochelle NY, telling people to keep their windows closed (video) https://twitter.com/gangofwolves7/status/1238233024174620674?s=21
Unofficial Iran numbers:
More than 3,650 people across 160 cities in Iran have died of coronavirus.
Still not sure why only 15 people. Perhaps the motel is really trashed in the remaining rooms. I imagine that the city/county will attempt to turn it into a homeless shelter at some point, much to the chagrin of the neighbors. The neighbors are trying to stop its use as a quarantine area - how is that going to be managed?
“The neighbors are trying to stop its use as a quarantine area - how is that going to be managed?”
If I lived in that neighborhood I would burn it to the ground.
That would be a Managed Problem.

Back from Walmart 2:53 AM.
* Employee pt penalty suspended.
* Stock low, no tp, no pasta, macaroni, bread shelves bare
* Talk of lockout, as State shuts down.
What state are you in?
As long as my thermometers aren't cracked and spilling mercury they're good to go.
Rural Ohio. Second largest volume Walmart in OH, from what we understand. All schools ordered to close. Ohio State and many colleges virtual only, traffic down.
Traffic is down substantially in CA today too.
Yes, from an epidemiological point of view, its unfortunate, but the time for action is early, when action is likely to be mistaken for overreaction. And when the action works, and prevents the spread of the disease, people a month from now will say See?! We overreacted! Just like Y2K. Because all the preparation work was successful, those who literally dont know what theyre talking about say Y2K was a hoax, too. Its a no-win situation for those who really do know what theyre talking about.
The way I see it, the thing that's going to slow down the spread the best at this point is those who appear healthy quarantining themselves.
That will help in two ways.
One is that if they are really healthy, they are far less likely to or won't catch it.
The other is, if they have been exposed and are carrying it, they won't be spreading it around to others unwittingly. And unfortunately, I think there are far more in that category than most people would feel comfortable with.
Calling it a night.
Need rest to keep the immune system up.
Got a link to that Dilbert cartoon?
I’d like to send it to mr. mm and some family.
You can PM it to me.
Sent.
That twitter feed you posted had an interesting article about how, as humans, we deal with threats like this. I thought it was very good.

Strange COVID-19 Bedfellows:
Gnawing Anxiety and Under-Reaction
by Peter M. Sandman and Jody Lanard
We relatively normal people are caught in a battle between our gut and our brain.
Our gut knows that were almost certainly facing a pandemic severe enough to disrupt our normal lives.
If we were 100% rational, our brain would know it too.... The vast majority of experts now expect at least a few very bad months, and maybe a couple of very bad years....
But were not 100% rational. Part of our brain just cant help slightly doubting the wisdom of extreme pandemic precautions. This part of our brain has second thoughts when scoffers look at us like were nuts. We dont want to be wrong about the looming disaster (even though we pray some miracle will stop the pandemic), but we also dont want to be seen as weirdos. We start to understand the loneliness and alienation that Cassandra and Chicken Little must have felt....
I visited a large Walmart in NE Oregon this afternoon. Remarkably normal. Sanitizers gone, of course, but good stock in other areas I checked. The county does have two covid-19 cases so the lack of apparent panic surprised me. In fact, the biggest topic of discussion seemed to be the new plastic bag ban (although they do have the heavier guage plastic bags available).
“And that knee replacement will be next year.”
Crap. A good friend had knee replacement surgery last June. Complications upon complications. He finally got the permission (from a new heart doctor) to go try another attempt at fixing it. I hope it still happens - he’s been suffering a lot this year.
It is to be done at the hospital in Everett, WA. Home of the first corona virus patient in the USA. That we know about that is.
Thanks.
What a great way to spread the disease.
