With further developments in the outbreak of COVID-19, the Ivy League Presidents are announcing their unanimous decision to cancel all spring athletics practice and competition through the remainder of the academic year.
Individual institutions will decide whether or not winter teams and student-athletes who have qualified for postseason play will participate.

When will they cancel March madness, this week? Pretty soon they’ll say stay home from work, the dow will go down 20,000 points, the media will have panicked the country into ruin.

Yep. I think that’s where we’re headed. All the panic, cancellations etc. likely to cause an economic collapse. It will be much worse than the damage done by the virus itself.
I recently saw the best explanation I’ve read yet. Corona is extremely contagious, no one disputes that. Since there is no vaccine, and no real treatment, the idea is to keep people separated to slow down transmission. The goal isn’t to completely stop the virus, it’s to avoid overwhelming the healthcare system.

How far back is this conspiracy to destroy the economy? China, who we now know covered up the virus and way under-stated infections and deaths and allowed it to rage and spread beyond their borders before revealing the issue. We know that the virus itself is no more dangerous than the influenza viruses that we face every year (and not particularly more virulent either). We know that good hygiene is the best defense.
And in the midst of this - the Russians and Saudis decide to kill the oil and gas industry by dumping supplies on the market.
It’s the economy, stupid.
It’s literally ten times more deadly than the influenza.
It’s all a bit too convenient.
80,000 Americans died of the flu during the 2017-2018 winter and none of this hysteria occurred.
I wonder who wants a crisis to not let go to waste?

Actually - that would be from a single Letist “expert” the Democrats called to testify. Every doctor I have talked to - and the ACTUAL experts are saying it is no more deadly, with death rates actually still under 1% (and some sources actually putting the real number at 0.1% - making it statistically less dangerous).
