Of course they did. Leftist hacks bent on cultivating panic and hysteria crash the economy in the hopes it hurts Trump. Nothing is more important than getting Trump out of office.

Most people in their 80s can tell you of several epidemics that would race through small towns and cities. Polio, Scarlet fever, Rheumatic Fever and lots of other diseases have run through communities in the 30’s and 40’s and 50’s and 60’s. We used to get Measles and Chicken Pox and Strep all the time. The 1918 Pandemic was really about the war. It may have been numerous diseases running through the armies. But it was only the biggest example. Rheumatic fever still kills over 300,000 children a year. America was never as safe as we like to think. There have always been diseases and the more we trade and travel and crowd, the more these diseases will spread over us. And 51% of us will get to the age of 80 anyhow. Being suddenly rich and famous is normally deadlier than catching this virus.

They don’t give flu, which happens every year, that status.

Seriously, what does WHO really do other than make pronouncements about obvious things?

Yeah so obvious that a blind man could see it.

About every 2 days the “World Health Organization” makes another solemn declaration about something. They dont actually do anything, but it costs Americans a few million bucks a day to keep them in limousine and fancy suits.

Let’s stop borrowing money from China to keep them in worthless jobs.

Did China finally let them say it, or did China stop being WHO's #2 financial contributor?

“Exactly HOW does this declaration change anything?”

All I can think of is, the DC clown fest will probably dump about 8 billion dollars on them so they can make more pronouncements.

“...dump about 8 billion dollars on them so they can make more pronouncements.”

LOL...yep, that’s about all the good that will come out of it, huh? Rinse, wash, repeat.

Kind of like COVID Conference cancelled because of COVID.

The issue is that the coronavirus has a fairly high death rate, is easily transmissible (basically a cold virus), and no one in the population has any immunity to it, so can catch it. These are all characteristics of a pandemic capable virus. Also, the number of cases grows exponentially, following a basic growth curve dynamic. Analyses show that each affected person can spread the virus to 3 others—how long do you think it would take for the virus to spread among every susceptible person in the population at that rate?

The virus has already passed from the lag phase to the log phase of the growth curve.

Like I said, it is scary stuff. If you don’t understand why, try to learn about growth curves.

The influenza affects about 3 million per year. The rest of the population is immune to it. Immunity is not permanent, but basically is good for a few years. This is not to say that influenza is not a concern, but that the behavior of the coronavirus makes it more concerning than influenza right now.

"7.7 billion people in the world, less than 200,000 with this. not pandemic."

Consider the efforts and expenses in some countries thus far to slow it down, and it's not done, yet.

A year ago, at post 32 you said:

At some point, you pearl clutchers are going to have to deal with the fact that very few people are dying from this. Whenever this is pointed out to you, you follow the Lib playbook they use for Globull Warming, predicting calamity, death and destruction, with ZERO proof, only conjecture and hysteria. You Coronavirus Groupies really have no idea what you sound like.

It really is embarrassing watching FReepers drink the Fake News koolaid on this.

Once again, only 4,389 have died from COVID-19. This isn’t even close to a pandemic.

I'm curious to know if this opinion has changed after a year's experience...

Just as an aside, a year later there were some 2.63 million deaths.

Yep, I still stand by what I said. You believe all these deaths were covid, you go right ahead.

Fair enough. I, for one have come much closer to your view, I erred on the side of caution, based on “leaked” information from ground zero Wuhan. The Chinese propagandists snookered me.

The so-called- “American” press didn’t help any either! “We had to destroy the country to save it...”

Also, we all in the nully nest have had WuFlu, me with my multiple comorbidities, my nonagenerian mom, and my son. It wasn’t particularly pleasant, but no where near as bad as advertised.

I hear what you’re saying, and I can definitely understand persons who are more senior or have comorbidities being very cautious with this.

It just makes me sick how the left have used this thing for their own purposes, gladly causing hysteria and rampant fear to permeate our lives.

I do hope you and your family are well!

We were all a little droopy for 3-5 weeks, but all well now.

Took quercetin (an ionophore), zinc, and vitamins, plus OTC decongestants. Wouldn't have known about HCQ, which our governor who secured a hoard of HQC for himself, his family and convicted felons in prison before blandly advising pharmacists that they would lose their license if they dared fill a new prescription for HCQ, nor would I have known that there are other ionophores for zinc, nor that zinc in the cells is the viral blocker.
