There was a post from a physician on twitter that gave the respirator settings that were working for their patients and said that maintaining the patients prone was more successful.

I can tell you from supporting a colleague of mine while he was in an Italian hospital for two months... Italian health care is .... well,it leaves a lot to be desired

NOtice Italy has people on their stomach Looking at the lower left pic, they must have twisted that guys head all the way around until if faced backwards.
Maybe twisting their heads around is part of the treatment.

How Coronavirus Kills. The whole thing is worth watching, however you can skip to 5:08 for three breakthroughs in treating ARDS. The benefit of having patients in the prone position was just discovered in 2013 (it is #3 in the list of breakthroughs).

Thats called the prone position and it cuts the death risk in half if performed 14+ hours a day.

That was one of the findings to improve the mortality rate during ARDS treatment. Probably standard practice in the US.
