A physician's assistant who became New Jersey's first case of coronavirus has spoken out about the disease from his hospital bed and warns others to take the threat seriously.
James Cai, 32, fell ill last weekend while attending a medical conference at a hotel in Times Square.
He has been hospitalized since Tuesday at the Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, New Jersey. So far, 13 people have been tested for COVID-19 in New Jersey. The other 11 cases have come back negative.
'Every day is getting worse,' Cai said Monday during an interview with CBS, adding that 'it happened so quick'.
'A lot of people say its OK, dont wear masks. I dont believe that,' Cai said.
Cai, who works and lives in Manhattan and Fort Lee, New Jersey, said the virus is not one to be taken lightly.
In New York, where Gov Andrew Cuomo recently declared a state of emergency, cases of the coronavirus have shot to 142.

It was a year ago in January. I’m hoping that it granted me some immunity. :)
What you call ostriches, I call those that arent cowardly, weak sissies, that have learned from experience, not to run for cover every time the media says boo.
This experience has shown me how incredibly wimpy Americans are. They are unable to think rationally, and easily manipulated.
Almost to the point of getting sick intentionally to stream it on YouTube. Sorry, to tell you, but you panic pushers on FearRepublic have lost your minds.
Mainland Chinese guy.
He’d be in a higher risk group to come down with it.
My cousin and his wife moved to Italy in 1973. When they, their children, and grandchildren get sick, they can’t get back to the USA fast enough.
“Every day is getting worse,’ Cai said”
When I got pneumonia, every day got worse — until it didn’t.
“Fort Lee is about 1/3 Asian, so he may have contracted it in Fort Lee from someone who had traveled from China, and subsequently became symptomatic at the conference in NYC.”
Yes and he’s Chinese and I’m sure frequented Chinese businesses and establishments.
“1 death of a child attributed to this virus.. for whatever reason youth do generally not seem to be affected.”
My theory is that the very young kids are still benefiting from whatever is in mother’s milk that helps with their immune systems. (I am not even close to being a doctor, so just MHO.)
Its not just young children. The entire worldwide death found of anyone under the age of 18 is literally at this point 1.
What was your situation that caused you to be near this person? A waiting room? A community center? ?? She sounds like a creepy person, even when not sick and/or coughing.
I think he is higher risk because he is an Asian male..which may be why he is under the typical age of getting it.
Italian Dr said youngest he has seen was in 40s...but that was a while back..maybe a week or so
True. Many deadly strains of flu have come out of China. I almost lost two family members to the Hong Kong flu years ago. Flu coming out of China is NOT unusual, what's unusual is the Chinese reaction to this flu. and the city the flu came out of...
Somethings didn't add up... too many 'unknowns'...
Let's say a flu came out of Ames Iowa and the Federal Government sent in troops to barricade roads so people couldn't leave even though the Ames 'flu' seemed mild... If you have a choice of believing the words or 'the actions'...go with the actions.
because I am ABSOLUTE idiot...and went to the Casino to get a free gift they were giving away...and gambled some while I was there
won money ..might have won more..but had to leave because of the coughing woman. She was just hanging around in a very enclosed place in this section...coughing around everyone...and within 6 feet.
like I said...its my own fault for feeling invincible.
Flights continue to land in the U.S. from coronavirus hotspot Italy - so where are the checks?
Fauci compares coronavirus outbreak to the early days of the HIV/AIDS epidemic and pre-pandemic bird flu and says ‘there’s still a lot that’s unknown’ about the disease where the elderly and those with underlying conditions appear to be most at risk
Going to venture into paranoid land and I don’t care what anyone thinks. Would not surprise me if China was intentionally spreading this virus here. They send their students to spy on us once they get jobs (caught one myself...). Could be sending out spreaders to public and crowded areas. They are an evil regime and I put nothing past them.
Well..lets say for a minute that it is not an escaped bioweapon. It happened by nature.
Do I think China would have any qualms about taking advantage and spreading it here? Not at all.
It would be pretty easy to spread it. We arent screening anyone.
Or just go on a cruise.
Madonna is forced to CANCEL the final two Paris dates of her Madame X tour over global coronavirus crisis... after knee injury scuppered previous shows
maybe a conveninent excuse if her ticket sales are low
THAT thought has crossed my mind...
Still not getting a flu shot..although I am considering get a shingles shot
A flu shot won’t protect you from coronavirus - but it could help prevent you from catching respiratory viruses that make you more susceptible to the highly-contagious disease that has sickened 627 in the US
If you die, can I have your car..?
