As you may or may not know, I only really started taking care of the diabetes in 2017, though I was diagnosed in 2010. Even then, my control has been kinda bad. I sometimes see a blood sugar near 300, but I am getting better.
Some of my neglect has caught up with me.
Friday morning, I noticed I was seeing double when driving. I went to the doctor for a previous appointment, unrelated to this. I didnt bother to mention this issue because it came and went, and I figured it was just eye strain or something.
Well, it got worse Saturday. My optometrist is open on Saturday, at 11AM, but I ended up calling the on-call doctor (they say to call if it is an ocular emergency. I figured this was close enough to an emergency.
So I got in touch with him, and he told me to come in right at 11AM, and that he would bump his previous persons appointment, because this is serious. I came in, he looked me over (retinas, eye movement, prescription change). When he got done he told me what has likely happened is that one or two of the 6 major nerves, or a blood vessel feeding one of the eye muscles had either a stenosis (narrowing) or aneurysm (swelling). He would be concerned if is is an aneurysm, so wed want me to get to my normal doctor)first thing on Monday in an emergency basis, and at his recommendation, to order a scan (CT or MRI) using angiogram / radioactive fluids so they can see whats going on it there. So I will need to do these things to maybe get my eyes back to normal function.
There is a bit of good news the optomologist said the prognosis for a recovery in weeks or months is pretty good, because my pupil function was perfectly okay. He told me the body will come up with new blood vessels to feed the nerve and the muscle that is in a state of palsy, and that if there is nerve damage, even that can be repaired. If it does not work out, that there are surgeries possible to repair things. Not sure that is a great option, I dont see how they could correct that.
The level of double vision is extreme when I am driving, but near-in looking at a computer screen seems to be okay. If that deteriorates, I should be able to keep going by wearing an eye patch and using one eye.
Needless to say, I am terrified. The one thing I do not want to lose is my sight.
Prayers up!
Sending love and healing to you and yours eyes Laz.
God goes with you always.
:)
Prayers for you, Laz. May God protect you and bring you to the best outcome.

Prayers done for You, Family and Your Medical Team.
Do you or anyone on this thread have a good website for change of diet for diabetes?
My mom was diabetic and I am also showing symptoms of diabetes.
I am 78 and a bit overweight and have been wondering about this so interested in this thread.
I have trouble driving at night now and don’t do it as a general rule.
There are six major muscles that move the eye. They are inner or outer ocular eye muscles.
One of them has a "palsy" which caused your eye to go out of alignment which is what caused the double vision.
People don't know this but your eyes don't see "single" images, your eyes each see separate images, its your brain that maps the images together.
When an eye goes out of alignment, the brain doesn't know how to put the image together since it's "different" from how it's used to mapping the two images together.
Sometimes the brain can compensate for slight mis-alignments, others not.
Sounds to me like yours is temporary and will likely resolve itself.
If your eye doc hasn't recommended vision therapy for you (yes, that's a real thing) you should ask about it.
You know my number, call me if you need to.
BTW: YES, I've had that happen to me. I've had two eye surgeries on my right eye to correct an outer eye muscle palsy, that I had since I was a child.
Prayers up.
Will offer up a prayer to The Glorious Archangel Raphael.
Prayers up Laz.
I’m praying for you, Laz.
Hey silly rabbit. Prayer for your body & your wisdom, discipline etc. Thanks for the alert.
Hey man, we need you! The planet needs you! God needs you. You gotta take care of this stuff. Dont want toes falling off or fingers turning green. You need control because your kidneys may rebel and give you the finger. Truly, you matter. So, please take care of yourself. Insulin - oral meds - whatever it takes. There are still too many morons in the world to make fun of. You lead us and teach us how to hone our techniques while utilizing a cat laser pointer.
Seriously, be well and prayers for your healing and well being!
Hey, Laz, I just want you to know that FReepers everywhere love you, and we have your back! You are being covered in prayers, and I know that God has your best interests in mind. Whatever happens, you will be able to handle this, because you are stronger than you realize!
Im praying for complete healing and that you do not lose your precious eyesight. Know that however this goes, there will be good that comes from it!
My sincere prayers for you my FRiend.
I was released from the hospital last Sat. after a 16 day stay for a surgery, then I had a stroke and then they could not get my bp under control. Hope I can get financial assistance so I can get some physical therapy.
Hang in there Laz, I truly wish the best for you.
Prayers up, partner.
Prayers up for you, Laz.
I’m sure the docs can fix this.
God of light and all goodness, we pray for our brother Lazmataz and pray that you guide the hands of the doctors and those who care for Him. For Laz we pray for resolve for him to address those things that cause diabetes from which he suffers. Amen!
I hope you feel better! Double vision is pretty scary.
