As you may or may not know, I only really started taking care of the diabetes in 2017, though I was diagnosed in 2010. Even then, my control has been kinda bad. I sometimes see a blood sugar near 300, but I am getting better.
Some of my neglect has caught up with me.
Friday morning, I noticed I was seeing double when driving. I went to the doctor for a previous appointment, unrelated to this. I didnt bother to mention this issue because it came and went, and I figured it was just eye strain or something.
Well, it got worse Saturday. My optometrist is open on Saturday, at 11AM, but I ended up calling the on-call doctor (they say to call if it is an ocular emergency. I figured this was close enough to an emergency.
So I got in touch with him, and he told me to come in right at 11AM, and that he would bump his previous persons appointment, because this is serious. I came in, he looked me over (retinas, eye movement, prescription change). When he got done he told me what has likely happened is that one or two of the 6 major nerves, or a blood vessel feeding one of the eye muscles had either a stenosis (narrowing) or aneurysm (swelling). He would be concerned if is is an aneurysm, so wed want me to get to my normal doctor)first thing on Monday in an emergency basis, and at his recommendation, to order a scan (CT or MRI) using angiogram / radioactive fluids so they can see whats going on it there. So I will need to do these things to maybe get my eyes back to normal function.
There is a bit of good news the optomologist said the prognosis for a recovery in weeks or months is pretty good, because my pupil function was perfectly okay. He told me the body will come up with new blood vessels to feed the nerve and the muscle that is in a state of palsy, and that if there is nerve damage, even that can be repaired. If it does not work out, that there are surgeries possible to repair things. Not sure that is a great option, I dont see how they could correct that.
The level of double vision is extreme when I am driving, but near-in looking at a computer screen seems to be okay. If that deteriorates, I should be able to keep going by wearing an eye patch and using one eye.
Needless to say, I am terrified. The one thing I do not want to lose is my sight.
My prayers for your recovery and continued good health. Do watch your blood sugar. As you’re finding out, if can really cause problems when it gets too high. Good luck.
Father, we come before you to lift up Laz, and those of us who have diabetes, of which I also, am one, to ask for mercy, in the Name of Jesus. We know that we should watch our diet and activity better, but it’s not easy, and we need your grace, to do things the way we should. We pray that Laz’s eye condition will heal. Give the doctors wisdom, and give us strength and resolve to take care of ourselves in the way You would have us. Thank You for our many blessings, and we give You all the glory and praise, in Jesus Name, Amen
Laz, The Lord is near
Call on Him
He is a prayer away
Im praying right now!
Laz if it was an emergency they wouldnt have let you go home...
...just do what they say
May the Lord Jesus grant you all that you need. Amen.
That basically means that now when you see a really ugly democrat woman you will see two really ugly democrat women. I didn’t really calculate for a crowd though . . . your own you own either way.
Prayers up.
Praying for you!
Further to my previous post Laz, I lost my eyesight twice since 2002. Both then, and 2016 the VA came through for me, and my eyesight is fine. Going to the VA tomorrow for what should be the final follow up visit for the last surgery of 2016.
It’s incredible what these eyeball doctors can do today.
in my prayers.
Prayers sent from here.
Damn, bro. Prayers for sure.
You will be in my prayers Laz.
You didn’t say if you had type 1 or type 2 so I will assume you have type 2. You MUST read the Diabetes Code by Dr. Jason Fung. If you want to get better this will help. The key is intermittent fasting. Read it while you still can. Don’t wait until it’s too late.
God bless!
Glad to hear youre taking care and praying to the Lord for your complete healing.
Prayers for your speedy recovery.
Since he's seeing double, he'll just have to hit them both.
You’re a great FReeper, and even though I don’t know you, I’m sure a great person. God bless you. Stay on this and get well. We need you.
I understand perfectly. (Double vision, different etiology, fear of losing vision.) Prayers up now and continuing.
Get well soon. Need your humor and insight.
