Wardaddy - as I pointed out a week or so ago, this virus does not seem to be limited to people with East Asian genes.
I disagree — the virus seems to spread mostly in colder climates - in hotter places like India, Pakistan, etc. it doesn’t seem that spread. The exception is Iran - but even then the spread is around Qom - the northern part of the country (and I don’t know what’s the temperature there like).
Even in italy, the hot south seems to have no cases at all
I think there’s no need to panic, but there is every need to take precautions.
I’m in my 40s and I have children below 18 so my precautions are:
1. Ensuring everyone washes their hands regularly - with soap and water.
2. I’m not going overboard with anti-bacterial wipes etc - they are anti-BACTERIAL and can’t help against viruses
3. Not touching our eyes, nose and throat.
4. Daily salt water gargles, neti pot to clean the nose etc.
5. lots of vitamin C and A - overbombarding.
6. A spoonful of honey to soothe throats in the morning
Since it’s lent we’re also on a vegetarian only diet so eating a lot of leafy greens and lentils.
in terms of panic buying - none - we have toilet paper to last 2 months, but we normally have that backup.
The virus won’t last into Summer - the moment hot weather gets here, it will be better.
For older people it is a problem

Nope, this isn’t about you using the word Oriental - it’s your post that suggested that this is affecting only them - which it isn’t.
“Whites” aren’t genetically the same (neither are all East Asians for that matter) — if you want to say “all whites are susceptible to disease xyz”, that’s also medically incorrect.
If you say Caucasians then you are on a better track - peoples from south asia to ireland have some genetic similarities.
So, 2 months on, does it still seem to you that “orientslists” are more likely to get the virus? Or have you changed your opinion?

Yeah OK say it was a Pakistan man and NOT the woman working in the lab!! Those PESKY Chinese have blamed it on so many different sources who the hell believes them anyway!!
It would be interesting to see which racial groups are more susceptible.
I don’t agree with the view that “blacks” are more at risk just for being “black” - that’s the NY times view, but it forgets that most black people in the USA have higher obesity levels, are more likely to live in cramped urban areas and have higher diabeties issues - so it’s difficult to remove that from the “race” issue.
As to East Asians or Mongoloid people, they seem to have lower rates in terms of country vs country, but within the USA it’s not possible to differentiate for the same reason - they have lower rates of obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure compared to “whites” or “blacks”.
When I’m looking at the data for Western Europe I don’t see a “racial” pattern at all:
Why is Spain hit so badly but Portugal isn’t?
Why is northern, richer Italy hit so badly while poorer, more genetically diverse Sicily isn’t?
It’s puzzling.

And for this I compare Swedish death rates versus Denmark+Norway. Sweden has thrice the number of deaths.
If there hadn’t been a lockdown, the death rate would have been higher. How much higher - let’s take the Swedish example as 3 times higher - so 210K now
Is this the time to lift restrictions? Yes, for non-urban parts of the country yes.
What about urban, high-density areas? In limited areas, with tracking, yes.
