Wow that’s a piece of history very very few know.

So she saw that he wise giving powerful speeches on this rail tour?

I assume the crowds were much much bigger bite the end.

Strong taking the South must have hurt Dewey alot.

Do I have no idea who won the South back then regularly

As the Give-em-Hell Tour went on, the crowds grew in size.

In those days the Solid South voted Democrat due to memories of the "Late Unpleasantness Between the States." Only blacks in the south voted Republican when they were allowed to vote. The Klan did its best to keep that from happening.

Dewey blew it because he believed the polls. Because the pollsters stopped polling before Truman's tour by train, the pollsters completely missed Truman's late surge from behind. Dewey worked his campaign via radio while Truman went to the people. That made the difference.

With all the criticism aimed to Wallace and Thurmond, Truman escaped and looked like a man of the "sensible center." Bill Clinton would call it "triangulation."

The South was solidly Democrat, it hurt Truman more then Dewey. Dewey’s loss was remarkable.
