As the Give-em-Hell Tour went on, the crowds grew in size.

In those days the Solid South voted Democrat due to memories of the "Late Unpleasantness Between the States." Only blacks in the south voted Republican when they were allowed to vote. The Klan did its best to keep that from happening.

Dewey blew it because he believed the polls. Because the pollsters stopped polling before Truman's tour by train, the pollsters completely missed Truman's late surge from behind. Dewey worked his campaign via radio while Truman went to the people. That made the difference.

With all the criticism aimed to Wallace and Thurmond, Truman escaped and looked like a man of the "sensible center." Bill Clinton would call it "triangulation."

Do you think he should have let MacArthur use nukes against China?

I know you were probably just barely a teen at the time but sometimes when you are alive during something you have a better grasp of the reality of the situation.

I was 12 when Reagan was elected and I remember a lot of it. Great time to be a kid
