Cruise ship passengers were kept on an ocean liner in yet another coronavirus scare at sea today after a former shipmate tested positive in Italy.
Some 2,000 people were called back on board the MSC Opera from an excursion in Athens today and told not to leave the ship.
Once they returned, the captain revealed that an Austrian tourist who left the ship on February 28 had been infected with the virus.
The virus patient, a man, had disembarked in Genoa in northern Italy, the region at the centre of the coronavirus outbreak in Europe.

No,no no.
Alls I said was, “I hope this cruise has Corona like the last one I was on.”
Hell no, I’d stay in a nice sunny place drinking grapa and eating olive oil, cheese, and olives. “Opps...didn’t get the word...missed the boat....sorry”.
Flights need to be stopped form Italy!!
and they need to be added to the travel ban Like China and Iran (14 day quarantine)
Good grappa will kill it.
Cruise prices might not have hit bottom yet, can book for 2021!
Disclaimer: I represent no entities involved, just enjoy cruises.
And the hysteria ramps up! Woo Hoo!
WORST......LOVE......BOAT... .EPISODE......EVER!!!
that’s great, the whole ship will be infected.
This will hopefully bring the prices down when the virus passes? wowowowowo.
Good grappa will kill it.
There is no such thing.

This is the worst decision possible.
Everyone should read Mark Twain’s book about his travels to Europe on a steamer, The Innocents Abroad. There was an epidemic panic in Europe and they were refused entry into a number of countries, including Greece. If they came ashore illegally they would be imprisoned for a few weeks as quarantine. Mark Twain and his companions snuck ashore and found their way to the Acropolis at night.
After holding a database conference at a bank in Vicenza, Italy during the early 90’s, our team was invited to a restaurant by the brother of the owner for a dinner party. It was up in the mountains out in the country. They reserved the upper floor for us and set up one large table. The table had place settings with wine glasses and several large glass pitchers of water. Except the pitchers turned out to be bootleg grappa.
Grappa used to be the dregs from wine making. How did it get to be so expensive?
Nuke it from space....
Just give all passengers a few shots of Metaxa or Ouzo. That ought to kill it.
Umm, quarantines don’t really work if you apply them after everyone you suspect has been infected has already been milling around with the local population.
Yeah, if someone told me I had to report back to that ship, I would not comply. Hospital or some other detention facility? Sure. Big floating virus nursery? Nope.
Our cruise departing Rome in October has dropped $500, now $1300 below list.
