Today’s Cryptogram

Posted on 03/03/2020 3:05:00 AM PST by nikos1121

Today’s challenging CG is from The Arkansas Gazette. Go with your gut. Under 4 minutes is a great score today.

ZUBTOYW PZ FZZFTUPBVVE WBJU GS EGYJ WFJZGTBVPUE MPUA UAF IGVYKF UYJTFO YW. —UGK ZFCYJB

You can find this little fun word game, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications.

The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated.

PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and any tips you might give the group on how you solve these puzzles as puzzle solvers love to hear how you made out.

You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram.

If you're just starting out on these, be patient, as you'll be proficient in no time.

If you need a little help you can copy the cryptogram and paste it to Hal’s Helper below:

You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper.

Solution to our last puzzle:

I LIKE WORK: IT FASCINATES ME. I CAN SIT AND LOOK AT IT FOR HOURS. JEROME K. JEROME.

This CG stumped a lot of people.

When I find myself staring at the page I try two things. I’ll count the letters looking for “E” it’s almost always 1, 2 or 3. If that fails I’ll go to my friend Hal.

About three minutes. Not familiar with the author, however...

The bigger they are, the LOUDER they fall...

I went for the (at least to me) obvious choices for author and the friend of Huck didn’t work nor did the pitcher so didn’t ‘panic’ and solved it in a ‘flash’.

As to start, when transferring it from msg to Hal, I am ‘looking’ for a key word, always start with the single letter it USUALLY has to be an a or i and take it from there.

Oh yes, I do NOT look at the hints supplied in the text(s) until it is a last resort —and I will first walk away if stumped and come back to start anew.

I do use Hal and yes, I do consider it somewhat ‘cheating’ but he does make life a little ‘easier’...<: <: <:

Not me! It took me a while guessing at double letter combinations and then thinking about some of the clues

MPUA UAF did it for me. Common digram, (UA) common two word combination. After that it was straightforward.
