The Dodge Grand Caravans journey is finally ending this spring. The minivan is scheduled to end production on May 22, the automaker has confirmed.
The Caravan was introduced alongside the Plymouth Voyager in 1984 as a garageable van that helped kick off the minivan craze that continued through the 1990s, until family car buyers started making the shift to SUVs.
The stretched Grand Caravan was added to the lineup in 1987 and eventually became the only version offered.
The Caravan lived through five generations, with the current one dating back to 2008. U.S. sales topped 300,000 in 1996 and 1997, but have hovered in the 100,000 to 150,000 range for the past decade.

Chrysler still has the Pacifica Minivan which is built on a much newer Platform. It is a great Vehicle.
The Dodge Caravan became a low priced entry level Minivan, but with declining Sales it was on its way out.
Mrs Deplorable hates minivans... She lovers her Ford Expedition...
The vehicle concept exists under a different model name, or maybe two (Pacifica, including a hybrid version in 2019; and the one after the close paren), however, I was looking on Sunday, there was a $39K minivan for lease at a local dealer. One of my search hits references "the 2020 Chrysler Voyager, a lower-cost version of the Pacifica."
Had a used 2006 that was the generation that rusted away in the snow belt. Otherwise in good shape. It hauled a lot of drywall and plywood. Yes, the folding down seats are great.
Had a 1997. No rust or smoke (check oil, man!) after 13 years. Got totaled when I was rear-ended by a tow truck with a BMW on the hook.
Had a 1984 that lasted about 15 years.
Hoping our 2017 lasts until I am too senile to not know how to start the engine.
Never had a Mini Van but on trips out of town I’d see Chrysler Mini Vans cruising down the Interstate at 85 - 90 plus mph often thru the hilly windy parts of Western NC Eastern Tenn. & Kentucky. I always wondered if they had some handling feature that made them cruise the interstates like a Ferrari or were the drivers just trying to get there because the kids were driving them nuts with “are we there yet”?
I had a new 2017 Caravan, it pulled to right a bad that when you let go the wheel you couldn’t fast count to 3 without running off the road. I drove two other GC’s and even a new Pacifica and it was the same. Chrysler said it was normal. I sold the Caravan at a loss then I drove a Toyota Sienna and it was perfect, didn’t run off the road or even a slight pull to the right.
This is why I think Volkswagen’s new van based on the ID.buzz design could be a hot seller.
The original Caravan was one of the first if not the first mini van
They were revolutionary
Before that it was big hippie vans or camper vans or work vans
Most very spartan with big motors in your lap like a table and steering wheels you put knobs on
And the back was the smoke weed till you drop den all carpeted or paneled with black light and sound and often a mattress or two love seats or bean bags or just sit on the shag
And I bet there are grandmas on this forum that remember early 70s vans where things happened that like Vegas will stay there lol
My folks wouldnt let me have one...a rolling party palace..lol
Everything you said about those old vans from the 70s is true!!!
My bestie in high school had one. His Dad called it the “Whorehouse on wheels”.
I had a 96. A few years later, my car bit the dust so I bought my wife a full size van and took the minivan. I absolutely hated that thing. Try as I might, I couldn’t kill it and believe me I tried.
It was almost as handy as a pickup truck but I hated it.
Hit Post too quick. Sold it for $700 with 196,000 miles
What was the saying, If the van's a rock'n don't come a knock'n

They were still selling, but fewer every year.
And side doors opened out instead of sliding ....
windows all around
Look familiar? It should. It's a rebadged Dodge. Sold for a lot more than a Dodge. So no one bought them.
A friend had one of those, in the early ‘80s.
Old Chrysler minivans are the family hauler solution for poor Hispanics. They get worked over fast at Pick-a-Part.
Kept mine only a few years. Got rid of it and my wife at the same time. Kept all four of my kids. This was in the late 80’s.
The stabbin wagon.
