The losers were illegal insurgents who attempted to destroy America. Why in the hell should we have any of their symbols on an American military base? It would be like having a statue of Benedict Arnold on an American base.

This Marine vet fully supports the commandants decision.

Wouldn't this be more like removing American Indian symbols in the military...like Apache, Black Hawk, Chinook?

My fellow OIF brother, just make sure you NEVER tell anyone that the “Emancipation Proclamation” only freed southern slaves and the last were freed in New Jersey AFTER the war.

Victors write / re-write history.

I am not a “revisionist, sore loser,” etc. I am just an Eastern European Jew whose family was enslaved and murdered... Like 98% of southerners we were never slave-owners nor did we have anything to do with plantation lifestyles.

At the same time I would surely have fought for the south and the Southern cause.

Always fascinated by my many FRiends who attack confederate values and whine about an out-of-control federal government.

The same leaders that are destroying Confederate symbols are the same ones allowing homosexuals, pregnant women serving in the ranks.

Enjoy your new Marine Corps.

No they did not. They wanted to secede, go their seperate ways that the Constitution allows. The South kept getting harangued to the point of war.

IF the Yankees would have just left the South go the war would have never happened. BUT the filthy Yankees, under the leadership of Logger Head Lincoln, couldn't because they knew the north would fold from lack of goods.

You call it illegal. I call it something the framers addressed in the Constitution.

If you care to do some research you will find that Virginia reserved the right to secede from the union at the ratification of the Constitution.
Also non of the Confederate leaders were ever tried for Treason if I remember correctly.

And many historians maintain that confederates were attempting to save America, the one that was envisioned in our Constitution in which we were to have a representative republic. You know, back in the days when the term “United States of America” was a plural collective noun, not a singular noun that referred to a bloated federal government that routinely ignores the Constitution until a politician wants to roll it out like the tired old family member nobody thinks about except at family reunions.

Kind of sound like America today, doesn’t it?

I agree. Not long ago I would've been at least halfheartedly against this move, but learning a lot more about the Civil War and the behavior of the Confederate types, especially through Reconstruction...execrable. They should be banished from our history.

Hell, given the intense treason practiced by Democrats during that period, I'm surprised Lincoln didn't outlaw the party.

“The losers were illegal insurgents who attempted to destroy America.”

You’re an idiot for using the term insurgents since it was the north that invaded the south.
