Connecticut did a similar thing recently as well. But bags were not banned do you have to Pay a Ten cent fee a.k.a. tax if you want a plastic bag. Most retailers responded by getting rid of plastic bags, charging for paper and keeping the money they charged from the sale of paper bags. Then the government at all curious why they barely raise any money from it That they expected.
New Mexico is in that race to the bottom. Cities and counties already have bag bans including Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Silver City and all of Bernalillo County (includes ABQ). Net bags seem like the solution - at least you can wash those unlike the cloth over cardboard bags I have seen.
At my store, they put a "paid" sticker on any item that doesn't go into a bag. How's that going to working now that I'll be putting all 50 of my items back in the cart without a bag.
LOL!
Elections have consequences.
Wonder why your big gulps and vapes and salt and sugar and plastic bags get banned? Wonder why your taxes are sky high and housing is unaffordable? Wonder why you’re running out of energy? Wonder why you miss out on the good jobs and tax revenues from Frakking despite having large shale deposits? Wonder why your state is steadily losing people?
Keep voting for Democrats New Yaaaaakers.
In my yard I have a 13-gallon waste basket bag in a Homer bucket. Pick up the dog crap from my two (now just one) dogs with small shovel each morning, place in bag and fold the plastic in to keep out flies and repeat each day. When full I put the bag in our community dumpster.
Our local dog park has small black pastic bags for owners to use to pick up the poop. Without a scoop there, I put my hand in the clean bag and use the outside to pick it up and hold in the hand like a glove until I get to the trash barrel. Maybe not the ideal way, but it works.
Virtually every item picked up in that grocery store is wrapped in heavy...what again?
Not a dig TE, but like so many other Freepers, you seem to forget that we have one city that can “f” it up for the whole state. No fracking, no new gas pipelines, no plastic bags, abortion unlimited, drivers licences and tuition for illegals, SAFE Act, the list is endless. I’m outta here as soon as I’m eligible for medicare (two more years).
Stupid move at a time like this. Tests have shown that the reusable bags are absolutely laden with bacteria, whereas one-use plastic bags are much cleaner and far less likely to transmit disease,
You have to wash the cloth bags EVERY TIME they are used. A lot of people after going to the store, throw them in the corner or something or in a drawer. There’s a good chance by the end of summer, a food-borne illness will break out in NY.
Excellent point.
Think progressive, as getting progressively dumber, stupider and insane with each election. In a few years they will have voted themselves the new Venezuela, and some family will wonder some day, while eating zoo meat and tree bark, just how they got there.
Hell you can buy a thousand of them for about 20 bucks. Buy your own and carry them into the store. Most are re-usable and can be used over and over.
Oh, wait this is New Yawk and common sense is out the effin window.
Yeah but they will be wearing Nikes MADE IN CHINA.......
In Italy, you buy your bags, ,15e, and bag your own purchases. They are heavier bags,,, for 1e you can get a heavier reinforced plastic store branded bag that has nylon web handles and 2 holders for wine bottles.
Then u lug it home.
Wasn’t a bad bag,,,used it as a carryon for the trip home.
True. Few people are aware of that.
Hell better yet. Do not take any bags in and have an attendant then come and put your groceries in your vehicle where your bags are. Win Win...
This has been in the news since forever. If you are surprised by now you must be living in a state of blissful ignorance.
Ha. I'm stealing that one. I also like "Even a blind squirrel is right twice a day".
Since California started this, it is not unusual to find there are no carts at the store entrance. You frequently have to walk to the parking lot to retrieve one. At the same time, you routinely see people pushing carts with unbagged groceries because they refuse to buy bags. Then you drive a mile west and you can see mountains of trash at vagrant encampments the city and county refuse to address.
