TAIWAN - Diamond Cruise passenger. Tested negative twice, flew home, then tested positive:
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan confirmed one more COVID-19 case in a 70-year-old woman repatriated from Japan after an ill-fated voyage on the Diamond Princess, bringing the total COVID-19 cases in Taiwan to 40, according to a statement put out by the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) on Sunday (March 1).

CECC Commander Chen Shih-chung said that the woman continued to stay on the cruise ship after it arrived in Japan on Feb. 4. She had no symptoms of respiratory illness but tested positive for the new coronavirus on Feb. 15, and so was isolated in a hospital in Japan for treatment. Chen said that after she tested negative for the virus twice, she was released from the hospital and took a flight home.

Chen said that the woman wore a face mask on the flight and no passengers sat within two rows of her. When she arrived in Taiwan, she was escorted to a hospital for isolation and screening. After she tested positive three times, she was today confirmed to still have the virus.

All the medical professionals who came into contact with the woman wore protective gear; therefore, none of them have been required to undergo screening. The woman’s husband tested negative in Japan on Feb. 7, and he is currently being quarantined in a Japanese hotel, Chen added.

RHODE ISLAND - first case

First Presumptive Positive Case of COVID-19 Identified at RIDOH’s State Health Laboratories
The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) is announcing the state’s first presumptive positive case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The person is in their 40s and had traveled to Italy in mid-February. RIDOH is coordinating closely with the hospital where this person is currently being treated and all infection control protocols are being followed.

“The Rhode Island Department of Health has been preparing for weeks to ensure that we have a structure in place to, to the best of our ability, limit or prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Rhode Island. We fully anticipated having a first case of COVID-19,” said Dr. Alexander-Scott. “We are not seeing widespread community transmission in Rhode Island, and the general level of risk for Rhode Islanders is still low. However, everyone in Rhode Island has a role to play in helping us prevent the spread of viruses, just like the flu. It is very important that people wash their hands regularly, cover their coughs and sneezes, and stay home if they are sick.”

Outreach to the people who were in direct contact with this individual has already begun, with extensive efforts underway to ensure that they undergo a period of 14 days of self-monitoring for symptoms at home with public health supervision (quarantine). As long as anyone exposed to the individual does not have symptoms outside of their home setting, the virus cannot spread to other people in the community. This individual’s immediate family members have been self-quarantining at home since it was determined that, based on this person’s travel history and symptoms, the individual met the criteria to be evaluated for COVID-19. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is managing contact tracing for people on this person’s return flight to the United States.

This individual had limited travel in Rhode Island since returning from Italy. This person had not returned to their place of work since returning from Italy.

In the past few weeks, RIDOH’s State Health Laboratories worked to develop the capacity to perform testing for COVID-19 virus. In response to an urgent need, the State Health Laboratories expedited the final steps of implementation to run the test that identified this first case of COVID-19 in Rhode Island this weekend. Previously, all testing for COVID-19 was done at CDC. At this time, each presumptive positive test result must still be confirmed by the CDC Laboratories. This might change in the coming days.

“Very first thing in the morning might be better for grocery shopping. If your store opens at 6am, the shelves will be resotcked or in the process of and it will have been hours since the general public has sneezed in the store.”

I went to Sam’s Club yesterday in Woodstock, GA. Plenty of people stocking up. Many people asking me where I got my disinfectant wipes. No panic on my part. Already mostly stocked if the shtf. I did however pick up an extra 5 cases of water in anticipation of shortages due to panic buying.
One thing that happened there of note. An Asian was in the store, did not have a cart. He did have a cough. Obvious gunk he was coughing up. It was Interesting to see people scatter, including myself like pepper in a bowl when you drop dish soap in it. I couldn’t get out of there fast enough.

It was very busy there, in fairness I usually shop there during the week but to compare with the time I have shopped there in weekends it was exponentially busier.

Scott Gottlieb, MD @ScottGottliebMD 1/n #COVID19 hits older, vulnerable adults hardest. But there’s also data suggesting some disproportionate impact on younger adults when viewed relative to #flu. We compare hospitalizations by age from this China COVID19 data set to rates in U.S. for flu

IOW, EMTs and firemen aren’t allowed to protect themselves or others and when they get put in self isolation for 14 days, houses will burn to the ground and people will day from staff shortages.

American Airlines has announced it is suspending flights to and from Milan, Italy from both New York (JFK) and Miami (MIA) from March 1, 2020 until April 25, 2020. ... For those passengers whose flight has been cancelled, and who do not wish to rebook, the airline is offering a full refund.

Thankfully, that doctor was smarter than the average bear or the hospital would have a mess on its hands.

Yeah, the CDC is gonna jump right on this after their Starbucks fiber muffin and latte. No, they should have been wheels up in 30.

Germs are on every sniffed Charmin 24/7/365 but on off hours you won’t have as many people coughing all over everyone else.

Just got back from Wallyworld. Saw an old hippie liberal straight out of Austin Whole Foods type with his big walkman ear phones, black tights which set off his Birkenstocks leaving the store. As I was leaving over an hour later, he’s coming back in without his big ear phones but with a mask. Such a faker.

FYI, the vitamins were low or empty. The rest of the store seemed business as usual.
