It could also be a false positive. The CDC and WHO had to release these test kits very quickly. They have not (to my knowledge) released the statistical process control data on this test. In this case, a false positive will give the patient a scare but monitoring the health will show there is no problem.
Many tests are like this. My youngest granddaughter tested positive for lead exposure in military housing last fall. The good news was that the more expensive, longer, and more reliable test was negative. Sadly, 18 children in military housing on that base tested positive for lead in the more reliable test. The biostatistics folks who monitor these tests work to quantify the problems and improve the test.
