Because that seems to be US policy. Having been to Queens several times, it is a zoo there, just like Manhattan, so better to let it spread ‘quietly’ than to try to stop the spread and risk creating a panic. Once it has spread then government can take the needed steps that people otherwise wouldn’t have liked. Basically the China approach.

Just got back from Walmart here in Texas - getting a bit busy in the 0630-0700, although no evidence of people prepping. But there were some nearly empty shelves and gaps in others, so the 1.3M missing containers that were supposed to leave China is (finally) starting to show up on our shelves.
We’re basically down to buying hair dye now (for the wife, obviously)...figure that goes bye-bye too, although they were fully stocked, for now.

Hong Kong virus patients’ pets to be quarantined after dog tests “weak positive”
Dogs, cats and other mammals owned as pets by confirmed COVID-19 patients in Hong Kong must now undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine after a pet dog tested “weak positive” for the virus, Hong Kong health officials said Friday.
The semi-autonomous Chinese city’s Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department said in a statement that the dog was not showing any symptoms, and there was no evidence to suggest pets could be infected, or be a source of infection for humans, despite the preliminary test result on the animal.

I wouldn’t put much faith in them. Their job is to counteract a panic when it’s psychological, by buying just enough stock to stop a dive, which then allows program trading to start buying again. Long-term, when fundamentals (like China being shut down, and now Korea and Japan shutting down) demand an ‘adjustment’...they’re powerless...and that does make sense...at least to me.

We are literally weeks behind the power curve here. I don't know if there's no active spread in China outside of Hubei Province or not.
But the data makes the claim that ring quarantine can work. Don't you want to know that, if it's true?

Afganistan, Australia, Bahrain, Belgium, Cambodia, Canada, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, India, Iraq, Israel, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, Nepal, Oman, Philippines, Russia, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, UAE, UK, USA
Excellent vids. My takeaway:
30% false negatives using RT-PCR test. Worse at initial presentation. CT scans are more accurate.
Questions:
Is China including CT Scan results in their case numbers now?
Still hoping to see a good analysis here on the testing, or, have I missed it? (I can’t be on FR 24/7!)
Why can China send 20k test kits to Iran and we struggle with hundreds? Or are the Chinese kits almost worse than nothing? What the heck is going on here?

I think other factors determine how sick you get, and one of them might be whether you try to ‘lower your fever’, when your body needs the high temperature to kill it off.
As to viral loading, I think that will determine whether or not you actually get it. Stay in a taxi for 20 minutes with a vector, and you’re toast. Say hi, shake hands, and then walk away from that same vector, and you’re fine. Otherwise, half the world’s population would already be infected.
But, like you, I’m not a medical expert. Therefore, like you, I’m open-minded on health-related issues.

They’re not ‘suspect’, they’re lies. Iran has pretty much infected the entire Middle East, and now New Zealand. That simply isn’t possible with their reported 60 cases or whatever up to a few days ago. They have a population of 81 Million...unless they took those 60 and intentionally sent them to other countries (many being friendly to them)...then not going to happen.

Also has the insane flow chart. Someone decided to find out what a doctor does if simply someone walks in thinking they may be infected. It’s a government fustercluck at this point.
Thank God Trump suspended flights early. People are lying about having been tested clear (video above in one of the links) and where in China they visited.
Really, they don’t have any better options. Americans won’t accept China-style quarantines and half of Wuhan had already flown in and out of US airports before the threat was fully recognized. If we have major outbreaks of course Democrats are going to try to blame Trump - but their own stupid immigration policies left the door open and that fact will have be hung around their necks by every Republican office-holder.
Intelligent citizens have to prepare themselves.
Our “Superior healthcare” system, will cease being superior about a week into real numbers in a large urban setting.
People have to stop reading our own propaganda. And start looking at the reality.
It seems I have to write this every time...it doesn’t mean you are going to die. Not many people will die.
But your economy is going to suck.
