As face masks fly off the shelves amid rising fears over the COVID-19 illness, the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institute for Occupation Safety and Health have just issued a helpful guide about which types of beards and mustaches will make those masks less effective, and which will be OK.
Bottom line: Most beards, and a few mustaches, prevent the mask from making a complete seal against the skin.

Same here. I am starting to drag it into my mouth when I eat because it is so thick around my mouth. I may die from corona virus but I am not getting frost bite around my face.

Should be a problem for the mullahs in Iran. Alas might be warped into a problem here as pseudofolliculitis barbae (razor bumps) is extremely common in blacks, less so in whites, and is best treated by growing a beard. Left has thrown its favorite card on less.

I guess that means that there's no reason to panic-
until HHS Secretary Azar shaves off his beard.

In fact this is the reason Hitler had such a mustache. He was a soldier in WW I and had to wear his mustache short so his gas mask would have a good seal. He kept it as a reminder to the people that he had served honorably in the Great War.

Or maybe he was just a failed artist low-IQ vegetarian faggot twink-worshipping bitch drug addict c-sucker like so many of his SA and SS leaders. Lots of SCUBA divers I work with have mustaches.

Actually what the CDC is posting is correct.
If you have ever looked at old Civil War photos you see most of them have beards and mustaches. It wasnt until WWI that the army regulations mandated soldiers be clean shaven so the gas masks would fit right and make a good seal. That is why the Army to this day still mandates a clean shaven face.
There may be masks out there that can be worn with beards but I have never seen one.

Keep the beard but just a little closer trimmed. Use Vaseline where the mask should seal. It works to keep out paint, it will work to keep out a bug. It is not like you are going to wear the thing 24/7, or at all. If there are a lot of cases near where you live, use it when shopping, keep hand sanitizer after handling mail or packages that are delivered.

They didn't have mine: kind of a combination mountain man/grizzled prospector beard. I don't think a mask will work, but if I go an extra week without trimming it, it might get to a N95 rating by itself.
