62-Year-Old Found Dead in Home After Living Months Without Power or Heat; Family Searching for Answers

A Michigan family is grieving the heartbreaking death of their 62-year-old relative, who police said was found frozen and emaciated inside his mobile home last weekend.

According to WJRT-TV, police found Arnoul Jaros dead in his below-freezing home in Saginaw County on the afternoon of Feb. 15.

Jaros’ family described him as a “recluse” who also suffered from extreme social anxiety. “Arnie,” as his family called him, rarely interacted with anybody and had not held a formal job since his 20s, his family told MLive.

Karina Jaros told MLive that her uncle was fiercely independent and avoided situations where he would have to interact with people — even, on occasion — his family members. He displayed obsessive-compulsive behaviors and, according to police, did not have a phone of any sort.

Uh, sad to say but pretty sure this is the answer: "... was fiercely independent and avoided situations where he would have to interact with people — even, on occasion — his family members. He displayed obsessive-compulsive behaviors and, according to police, did not have a phone of any sort." That and the family apparently didn't check on him due to his behavior. If someone stops paying their power bill, is it the power companies responsibility to check why? And with the current wi-fi meter trend, pretty sure they could cut my power off without anybody even coming to the house.

Yes, the headline makes him sound old and decrepit at age 62. I am 63 and work fuultime. The real problem was: Jaros’ family described him as a “recluse” who also suffered from extreme social anxiety.

So family never bothered to go check on him frequently?

This guy was clearly in desperate need of serious medication...that he either didn’t get or didn’t comply with.

Same thing happened to a guy from my old neighborhood about 15 years ago. Of course he was much older than 62. Couldn’t afford to pay his heating bill and too proud to ask for help. They found him frozen to death in his bathroom.

So he was a FReeper.

Just kidding! Just a little joke, there.

this is the answer: “... was fiercely independent and avoided situations where he would have to interact with people — even, on occasion — his family members. He displayed obsessive-compulsive behaviors and, according to police, did not have a phone of any sort.” That and the family apparently didn’t check on him due to his behavior.

If his family wants to know who is co-responsible, they can look into a mirror and see.

He made his choice as an adult.

Well, it is sad. But this guy was a hermit, a recluse, by choice. Apparently he was never able to, or didn’t want to, get help for his mental problems. What else can a family do with someone like that?

I’m sorry for their loss however, they knew he had obvious issues and shouldn’t have been left alone for long periods of time. No one knew him better than his own family. To try and place blame on outsiders is deflection of the guilt they must be feeling.

“Family Searching for Answers” A bit late now, eh? If you’re “family,” then you should have done something. There is a time when “fiercely independent” = “messed up in the head,” and this man had reached that point.

I have an 81yo grandad that’d run circles around a 40yo; he hikes, skies, skydives and is still a pilot passing his FAA medical.

The family is searching for answers?

Answers to what exactly?

Is the implication that someone, some outside force, should have saved him from himself? What exactly did they expect to have happened to prevent this?

The guy was mentally ill. It cost him his life. It’s nobody’s “fault.”
