Figured we would start numbering the threads.
Some points to keep in mind:
1. This thing is not just the flu. 2. 1/10th of the worlds population is in some sort of lockdown. 3. Generally, we dont buy the Chinese numbers But if anything they are low. 4. Everyone is welcome to post, but dont bore us with your you are panicking posts. They are tedious.
Its Sunday night and the Walking Dead is back. Lets talk Coronavirus.

On my way to work..will try to check in here from time to time.
BREATHE! PRAY!
Italy again, this source shows 203 total cases, 4 deaths.
The fourth victim in Italy is an 84 year old who has already been admitted to the PGXXIII in Bergamo for other reasons.
203 total cases, of which 165 only in Lombardy.
In Piacenza, at the entrance to the hospital, an Advanced Medical Unit was set up by the Civil Protection to sort the cases that arise.
China update: 398 new cases, 149 deaths

Hope all goes well at work today, let us know how it goes :-)
“I wish I lived in Singapore right now. Their government health care system actually appears to care about Singapore.”
They do have ‘elections’ there, but they make damn sure that anyone resembling a US-style Democrat doesn’t get anywhere near power.
Seems to work quite well there!
“Its not just medicines... the whole supply chain is breaking down...

I think what will be most interesting is the Emergency Measures we soon take, just to keep Americans alive. For example: Air bags, fuel injection, fancy safety features are all great to have for cars, but they’re all (likely) loaded with Chinese content. But there was a day, not too long ago, when they didn’t have those ‘features’, but they still moved people and goods.
“Or some truck driver needs a part for his truck and its made in China...he quits delivering or continues driving while his brakes are going bad...”
Except for Ford since it is a US company - they’re fine. Go USA!!!
Hmmmm. Maybe not. Nope. We’re hosed.
“Where is the media in all this?”
When the media/Democrats do something all together, at the same time, it means they’re up to something.
They’re totally DARK on Coronavirus in the US. Now I’m starting to believe that they’re trying to somehow set up Trump on Coronavirus...by making sure it gets a solid foothold before he’s even told it’s here and already making the rounds.
“A lot of consumer products are NOT necessary or immediately necessary”
I was thinking the same - in that regard we have a huge portion of our economy which could ‘go away’ tomorrow, and other than a bunch of screaming kids (on one union guy here), the country wouldn’t miss a beat. Kind of a reset to get us back to making what we need. We may be able to go at least a decade by cannibalizing hardware, and putting it to essential needs...perhaps even long enough to get us back towards self-sufficiency, at least on essentials.
Even something like phones. I held out for several years with my flip-phone, while everyone else moved to smart phones. Needless to say, flip-phones are likely much easier to produce than smart phones (although still a huge effort)...so don’t be surprised to see them pop up again.
“Anyway, I would expect supply chain problems to develop a bit more gradually & sporadically than some would think. April could be interesting. After that, warmer weather should help. A lot depends on whether the vendor countries just decide to work and accept their human losses. After all, staying shut down might cost more lives than the virus, eventually...”
I agree with your summary and have thought the same. A lot of the problems will be downstream. I worry about my washing machine. Works ‘fine’ now (by its standards), but I’ve fixed it in the past (same for dish washer and refrigerator) and could order parts. If they start to break in a few months, maybe hand-washing starts.
Same for our factories, which, I’m sure, all rely on China in some way, probably many ways. They’ll continue to work, for a while...
“Its time to learn to be resourceful and fix things and improvise again.”
My brother starts a new job next week at a huge tech company we all know (and many hate, but not Google). Anyway, my advice, should he ask is the following, with regard to how the company should deal with the loss of imports from China:
1 - Do not throw away anything. Tag-it and store it, there will be plenty of warehouse space opening up soon, and very cheap rents. Figure that even old/obsolete hardware can be made to work (possibly with some new software), maybe not as good/snazzy as the latest stuff, but functional. Even stuff that is completely broken can often be cannibalized.
2 - Hire electronics techs for the above and start familiarizing them with the hardware, and do it now, they will be in HUGE demand soon.
“Air conditioners for the coming cooling season will be scarce.”
Thankfully, I have two spares now (one small, one very small, but who cares)...of course power needs to hold up!

One the market opens (assuming this number holds), panic buying starts. People still have 3 hours to make it to Walmart...Home Depot, or whatever.
.
This fits with medical projections from last week.
82% cases are mild, yet spreading the virus
18% require ICU, of which, 95% fatal
...mortality 12-17%
Of those who survive ICU baby organ damage
I think you might be counting angels dancing on a pin.
That certainly would be interesting, but I am pretty sure when the ships stop showing up, everything is going to be upset.
Are airplanes still flying into the USA from SKorea?
but, but, but,....Hillary told us the world economy would be so much better if we didn’t build everything here and instead everybody relied upon everybody else,.....it takes a village ...ya know..../s
Contrary to misinformed doomsayers, there are vaccines for this known patented virus. But where are they and who has them?
