Despite being a self-described socialist and a scourge of the elite classes, Bernie Sanders is in fact a millionaire with a property portfolio that includes three homes, which are pictured in exclusive DailyMail.com photos.
The 78-year-old Vermont senators property portfolio was mocked by presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg during Wednesday nights debate, as he remarked: The best known socialist in the country happens to be a millionaire with three houses. What did I miss?
You missed that I work in Washington; house one, responded Sanders. I live in Burlington; house two. And like thousands of other Vermonters, I do have a summer camp. Forgive me for that. Where is your home; which tax haven do you live in?
Sanders, who has taken the lead in the recent national polls in the race, has had to defend his health, his ability to beat President Trump in November and now his estimated net worth of $2.5 million. [ ]
He owns a main residence in Burlington, Vermont, a one bedroom pied-à-terre in Washington, D.C. thats just a half-mile walk from the Capitol Building and he most recently plopped down $575,000 in cash for a lakefront cabin complete with a guest cottage in North Hero Island, Vermont in the summer of 2016. [ ]
Although the 99-year-old wooden camp house on an island in the middle of Lake Champlain is nondescript compared to many of its neighbors, its the way Sanders and his second wife Jane bought the home that has ignited controversy. They scooped up the property soon after Burlington College where Jane was a former president was forced to close due to debts.

“The ideology Sanders pushes dictates that he not make even that amount of money.”
$175k per year, with all expenses paid for a Federal Legislator?
I’m CERTAIN Sander’s ideology thanks that’s meager “given the position”.
All three look just like Bernie: unkempt and shabby. And he paid way too much for that cabin, especially because it was built on cinder blocks. But I’m more into function and value than the zip code.
MARLOW: Lets talk about maybe the biggest reveal in the Sanders section, which is the media buying and Bernie finding a loophole to really it appears make himself incredibly wealthy, and we dont even know how wealthy.
SCHWEIZER: One of the dirty secrets in Washington, DC, is if youre running for office you do media buys. Alex, if you ran for the Senate and you said to me, Peter, I want you to buy a million dollars in television ads. I, as your media buyer, it would show up on the FEC filing that you gave a million dollars to my company. But the industry standard is, Im entitled to 15 percent of that as a commission for myself, but that never shows up.
Well, Bernie apparently figured this out because Jane, his wife, became his media buyer for his congressional campaigns. So we dont know exactly how much money she got, but we believe it was probably on the magnitude of $150,000. But the big money came when he ran for president in 2016, and theres a lot of mystery here, but I think a lot of reason to be concerned because, this time, hes running for president. Hes got all this money hes going to spend $83 million on media buys, 15 percent [of that] is about a $12 million commission.
MARLOW: Where did the $12 million go. Do we know who got it?
SCHWEIZER: We do not, but we have some clues. Heres the troubling part. So that $83 million goes through a company called Old Town Media. Okay, great. Old Town Media. Well, Old Town Media doesnt have a website, doesnt really have other clients at this time, and its registered the LLC of Old Town Media to this private residential home in suburban Virginia.
MARLOW: Thats typical, right?
SCHWEIZER: Right, exactly. And then you find out who actually owns the home. Its two old friends of Jane Sanders.
MARLOW: What? No. Not Jane Sanders again. Shes back. So, shes a big character in this, so we assume that the Sanders are basically enriching the Sanders.

Please don’t move the goalposts.
The couple say they paid for the four-bedroom home ($575,000) with the proceeds from the sale of her late parents' Long Lake home in Bridgton, Maine.
But records discovered by VTDigger showed she had to split the money with two brothers and received only $150,000 for that house.
Hmmm. What a couple of liars.
Why do you suggest I moved the goalposts?
Everyone knows those in the Federal government deserve more than their servants. /s
And without any sarcasm I contend Sanders “portfolio” for an elected official in DC for 30 years is MEAGER, at best.
I could have been there for the same time, taking NOTHING illegal or immoral, and acquired more.
You and others are barking up the wrong tree.
I hate to be defending our wannbe Social-Communist in Chief, but looking at his $464,000 house in Vermont, It appears to be similar to the 4 bedroom house I bought here in Indiana 2 years ago for $249,000 on an acre of land. Of course we don’t see the back side of the house or know how large the lot is. As they say in real estate ‘location, location, location.’ My MD 3 bedroom MD house on a quarter acre sold for $270,000 and it was half the size of my house out here.
Ive been working REAL jobs as long as Bernie.
I am nowhere near worth a million dollars.
He has supposed to have been a public SERVANT all these years as well as a hater of Capitalism...
How can this be, Bernie?
Which one is his “summer camp?”
Bernie needs a place in Vermont and one in the DC area.
He also has a lakeside cabin like many factory workers had when I was young.
I ran the numbers. To get to a $15 million net worth, you would need to invest $220,000 a year, every year for 30 years at 5% average annual growth. That is more than a senator makes now. Just running numbers, implying nothing.
I was thinking along the same lines. None of those properties are particularly impressive looking, although the lake house could have a spectacular lot that doesn't show in the photo. There's no question that Sanders and his wife are thieves but they don't have good taste.
bkmk
I can’t believe that phony sellout has any supporters anymore.
People don’t pay attention at all, do they?
the one on the far right with the rock retaining wall to prevent erosion.
The “summer camp” will be known as his dacha if he wins.
Let's check HER BANK ACCOUNTS!! SHE HAS MILLIONS!!!!!!!
Hugh Hewitt keeps saying that Bernie is worth 1 1/2 Million....GET REAK HUGH, you DOPE.....he has MANY MANY MILLIONS!!
NEVER VOTE FOR A COMMIE THAT COMBS HIS HAIR WITH A BALLOON!
