The EUs post-Brexit budget meeting erupted into rows with poorer countries demanding more aid while their frugal peers were determined to rein in spending.
Brexit left the EU short of around £62 billion when Britain left the bloc last month.
On Friday after nearly 30 hours of discussions the 27 remaining EU countries failed to agree on the overall size of the blocs 2021 to 2027 budget or how to spend it.
Speaking after the talks in the EUs Brussels hub, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said: We have to acknowledge that the differences are too big still to find agreement. [ ]
Net payers dubbed the Frugal Four Austria, Denmark, Sweden and the Netherlands dug in their heels, demanding that the budget is capped at 1 percent of the blocs economic output.
After complex negotiations, the leaders were no closer to a deal than when they first convened on Thursday with a proposal to set the budget at 1.074 percent of the continents gross national income, or some 1.09 trillion (around £900 billion).

Nearly all are also members of NATO. If they want to keep membership, they need to meet the 2% limit.
If not, then move American troops out of Germany and the UK etc. and into Poland.
Right now Germany, France, etc. don’t worry about Russia (the purpose of NATO) - they see that as Poland’s issue.
The EU's budget spending is about increasing trade and other common standards across the confederation

1. Not use toilet paper or paper towels or tissues — she can use hand-held bidets, cloth towels and cloth handkerchiefs
2. Not eat any non-Swedish grown fruit or vegetables
3. Use only wool products made in Sweden - no cotton etc.
the idea of efficiency is ingrained into German mentality since the 1700s - thanks to Lutheranism and Calvinism. It’s not so apparent in southern, Catholic Germany, but in the north that’s what they define themselves by.
I don’t think it’s particularly true in my own opinion. Frankfurt airport and Berlin airport are horribly inefficient to get around.
Angela can’t—Germany won’t allow her.From your mouth to God’s ear ;-)
What will happen is thatGood. They are spending money like crazy in Brussels from what I hear…
- The budget will be cut
The funny thing is, if the EU gave up the fantasy part of their budget, Global Warming, they would have no problems making ends meet. The Red Chinese founder of a company I interviewed with told me, (approximately) “The Germans are insane. They will buy anything you label as green.” I’d say that about sums it up. The whole Green movement is just another shade of crazy.Indeed. Well put!
