A forever thread is getting long. Perhaps a weekly thread?
Lets let down our hair...and set it on fire.
Unfortunately I believe we may have to go back to a daily thread since there is lots of bad news..
for those catching up here are the last posts on the older thread
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/3817900/posts?q=1&;page=751
last few hours
Coronavirus updates from the last hours:
- 87 new cases in South Korea (over 225 last 24 hours: 70 at one hospital)
- 24 new cases in Japan
- 10 new cases and 1 new death in Iran
- 33 new cases and 1 new death in Italy
- 2 new cases in the United Arab Emirates
-several people that tested negative on the cruise ship are now positive after roaming around
-CDC has only tested 414 people so far...major problems with test kits are preventing more test
-Samsung factory shut down in South Korea
Ugh, I agree but I sure dread the first page trolls....
Hair today, gone tomorrow...Bring Out Your Dead
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.
Heck, I just got the normal flu and it’s freaky these days....
Update Italy
Coronavirus, 51 cases between Lombardy and Veneto. «Outbreak in Lodi». Second victim is an old woman. Carnival in Crema suspended
ITALY > FIRST FLOOR
Saturday 22 February 2020
There is the second Italian dead. The victim is a woman from Casalpusterlengo, a municipality in the province of Lodi in Lombardy. She was 78 and lived alone in the house. After the first victim in Veneto of the Coronavirus and another infected, in the same country in the province of Padua , there are at least five other cases registered in the Veneto , including one in Dolo in the Venetian: the governor Luca Zaia announced it. This positivity was confirmed by the regional center of Padua. The samples were sent to the Higher Institute of Health in Rome. The Veneto Region confirmed this. The 67 year old Dolo, positive for the Coronavirus test, was hospitalized in the intensive care unit of the Padua hospital. IN DEPTH ITALY Coronavirus, 450 people isolated in hospital in Schiavonia
I can relate. I’m 42 and in good health, however the flu knocked me on my a$$ a couple of years ago and I have a newfound respect for it. My lungs were inflamed for nine months after I was “well”. Any little cold, allergy, or whatnot led to weeklong coughing spasms so intense I would vomit. A lot of people look at illnesses like the flu as if you either die or are just fine, when there is another scenario where your organs are damaged for months or years afterwards.
Hong Kong via Diamond Princess
Woman tests positive after leaving cruise ship
A woman in her 60s in Tochigi Prefecture, north of Tokyo, has tested positive for the new coronavirus after disembarking from the quarantined cruise ship docked near Tokyo.
Last Saturday, the woman on the Diamond Princess tested negative for the virus.

U.S. officials express a lot of confidence that if #COVID19 was spreading wed see it in our epi surveillance. We should be hopeful. But providers and front line personnel should still have caution, awareness that community spread could become apparent in U.S. Be safe. Be alert.

what I have read so far:
It is becoming clear the covid19 also infects internal organs
earlier it was believed to be only the lungs, and a second bout could weaken the heart to failure
now it looks like ovaries and testes are also effected pus stool and urine also are transmission routes
waste water plants are supposed to kill viruses and the like, but effective against covid19 in the water is unknown.
drinking recently bottled water may be a problem as some labels are bottled using some city’s water
use bleach wipe on public restroom toilet seats before use - microscopic urine splatter could contain virus
wash hands often, alcohol straight or wipes after wash. whatever you touch could have virus on it.
relapse is possible and is often fatal - glass lung a symptom revealed by CT scan
currently, the death rate in wuhan, as posted on ‘forever thread’, is over 3% using official CCP numbers
wuhan’s 49 crematoriums (going 24/7 @270 bodies each daily) were supplemented by 40 portable industrial furnaces
Origin remains unknown despite many looking. virus has some unusual features some claim or have proved. the longer origin remains unknown, the more credence it lends to the “conspiracy” it is a bio-weapon.
This seems like troubling news:
I wish I didn’t agree, but it’s getting there...
As long as the titles are easily and consistently searchable - say, always including “Coronavirus Live”, I’m fine with any frequency that makes sense to you all who can be here more.
I am awaiting news from East Africa. Once it gets deep into the Continent, all bets are off. I imagine Central Asia (India especially) would be a firebreak we need to keep in place.
And is there anyone alive in Indonesia?
I wonder if the virus has spread to North Korea? They would have few resources to deal with it and just about everyone there is malnourished so a disease could have a devastating effect. Not that we would get accurate news reports but sooner or later some info would get out.
I am beginning to think that burning the cities to the ground is about the only way its going to end.
here are the total wordl wide numbers
There are currently 77,975 confirmed cases worldwide, including 2,362 fatalities.
The simple fatality rate many erroneously use, deaths/cases, is now up to 3% (it was like 2.1%)
The increase is because of Hubie as they report steady deaths as the backlog in serious condition die...but a sharp decrease in new cases
example: 109 new deaths yesterday, only 400 or so new cases
