Just watched the "Lady in White"movie for the first time.Nice movie.I see shades of Steven King's Salem's Lot in it down to the music. Surprised he was not called out on it.

The Brit series of THE LADY IN WHITE was better and followed the book in a better way; however, I always love anything that Sidney Greenstreet is in, so do like this movie.

THE LADY IN WHITE is a great read and written by the same man who wrote THE MOONSTONE ( also a great story and yes, there have been T.V. series and movies made of this book too ); Wilkie Collins. Collins was one of Charles Dickens' good friends, but he was kind of weird.

Love that movie and the soundtrack. It’s been years since I’ve seen Salem’s Lot, but I don’t remember ever connecting the two. The narrator/kid was definitely supposed to be a Stephen King type though.

Read “Earth Abides” by George R. Stewart and you’ll see where “The Stand” came from...

I was just thinking the same thing. I read SALEM'S LOT when it first came out and then saw it on T.V. and I don't remember it being ANYTHING AT ALL like THE WOMAN IN WHITE!

THE WOMAN IN WHITE is NOT supernatural at all, contains NOT one vampire character, certainly is NOT "modern" in any way, but rather is more about the suppression of women through putting one in a mental asylumn, marrying for money, treachery, impersonation, evil foreigners ( Italian ), and the creepy Hampstead Heath at night. All of which is a far cry from a small town in Maine, in the 20th century, being over run by vampires.

Superficial resemblance in that a disease wipes out most of mankind. Major difference is that it is mindless nature that kills people in Earth Abides and the story centers on the protagonists struggle to regroup and survive. A satanic plot kills off humans in The Stand and the “good guy” survivors launch a mission to confront satan’s henchman.

You’re thinking of the wrong film. The OP was referring to The LADY in White, which is a ghost story, circa 1988 or so. Still nothing like Salem’s Lot.

Don’t see the resemblance. Lady in White is a ghost story. ‘Salem’s Lot is a vampire flick. For what it’s worth, I thought the TV adaption of Lot was dreadful.

Oooooooooooooooppppppps...you’re correct; however, I doo know better as I’ve seen the one you wrote about too; though I wouldn’t call that one an “old” movie. And that’s why my brain switched to a similar named novel and movie and T.V. Series, I guess. :-(

It was also made long after Salem’s Lot was written and filmed. Lukas Haas is a creepy kid even when he’s not supposed to be the creepy part.

Lady in White (1988) - IMDb
www.imdb.com/title/tt0095484
Rochester, New York, native Frank LaLoggia based the film on a popular and long-standing local urban legend known as “The White Lady.” Legend has it that the White Lady had a daughter who disappeared at the hands of a predatory young suitor, and so the White Lady roams the lake front to this very day, searching for her missing daughter.

WRONG
Salem’s Lot (also known as Salem’s Lot: The Movie, Salem’s Lot: The Miniseries and Blood Thirst) is a 1979 American miniseries television adaptation of the horror novel of the same name by Stephen King. Directed by Tobe Hooper and starring David Soul and James Mason, the plot concerns a writer who returns to his hometown and discovers that its citizens are turning into vampires. Salem’s Lot combines elements of both the vampire film and haunted house subgenres of horror.

Okay. 1988 seems to be after 1979 but maybe it’s not.

I don’t think of 1988 as an “old” movie. Old movies are from the Hayes Code era and earlier.

I’m not even trying to fight you. We’ll just start over and say I enjoyed The Lady in White as a kid. I haven’t seen it since, but I still remember “Have you ever seen a dream walking? Well, I did.” 🙂
