This will be the forever thread.
The CDC will turn everyone away. Their test kits are too precious dont you know. They will only test Chinese people!
It would be nice to know what OUR real numbers are, but we are not yet testing at the state level.
The algorithm for CDC testing is absurd: it will miss the majority of cases.
No one is advising people to reasonably prepare for quarantines
“contact” ?
“case” ?
“identifiable” ?

Working on a letter to my Congressman about the CDC’s failures. Highlighting the test kits.
Sorry I didn’t express myself correctly. My point to this person wasn’t that 2% deaths in our society is somehow not an important or substantial number - but that she personally should not feel reassured that she was at a 2% risk, that her own risk was actually way way higher.
The CFR does not represent the risk something poses to each person specifically. That depends on their own situation health wise, and how they respond to it. Many of these doctors dying in Wuhan and young and healthy!
But even a 1% death rate would be utterly devastating given how transmissible this thing appears to be.
That's the kind of policy that will get a lot of medical workers exposed, and in turn, expose their "healthy" patients, and so on, and so on....
Ah. I misread.
Nobody thinks they will be in the 2%.
Show that 70 year old person the stats for her age group.
There’s a study, probably on this thread, that puts their risk much higher.;

“#BREAKING: The city of Costa Mesa is seeking to block the transfer of up to 70 confirmed coronavirus patients from near Sacramento to the former Fairview Development Center”
WTF!, SEVENTY CONFIRMED???!!
Nah I wasn’t very clear :) Nope especially not this person. And CFR is way far from established - they thought SARS was only 2% in the early months as well. Only hindsight can give you a perfectly accurate CFR.
Great idea. I think I scared her into staying home for a couple of weeks already!
Although when I asked her to stock up on at least a month of groceries she say “why should I do that? If I need more I’ll just order more from Safeway.”
Arrggggghhh!!
wish you could edit posts here! she “SAID” not ‘say’

Fox News in Sacramento reported patient who tested positive for #coronavirus is travel related from China, but not #Wuhan. Patient quarantined at home, w security on threat of arrest, & receiving treatment. Not allowed to leave
Good idea, I may do the same. I was also thinking about putting together an info sheet listing news items and studies to send to dr offices and hospitals, starting with the ones around me. Probably wont do any good, but might make them double check protocols?
“buying groceries ahead saves money!”
Great point... I am stock up, now trying to get my brothers and sisters to stock up.
If it does not happen at least you don’t need to buy can goods for a couple of months.
