Sorry I didn’t express myself correctly. My point to this person wasn’t that 2% deaths in our society is somehow not an important or substantial number - but that she personally should not feel reassured that she was at a 2% risk, that her own risk was actually way way higher.
The CFR does not represent the risk something poses to each person specifically. That depends on their own situation health wise, and how they respond to it. Many of these doctors dying in Wuhan and young and healthy!
But even a 1% death rate would be utterly devastating given how transmissible this thing appears to be.

Show that 70 year old person the stats for her age group.
There’s a study, probably on this thread, that puts their risk much higher.;
That would be 3.5 million deaths in the US.
Not to be grim, but thats probably 3 million on top of the normal death rates.
People are missing this statistic in their dont worry attitudes.
