They should lead by example. :)

I'm confused, if we are dead within 10 years, why should we care about 1/3 of the animals that will be gone IN 50 YEARS! ?

I don’t read any story where the headline includes the words, ‘may’, ‘might’, ‘could’.

“The reality of 140 years ago there would have been at most a few hundred weather stations that kept detailed daily data.”

And their models are based on modern (presumably) calibrated instruments reading temps in the 100ths of a degree. One can only imagine the relative crudeness and variance of outdoor thermometers world-wide in 1880.

A new study has found that warming temperatures will likely cause hundreds of species to go extinct.

I'd guess that many, many species would thrive as never before if the earth really does warm up very much.

Cristian Román-Palacios, one of the researchers, said in a statement that they also estimated how quickly populations can move in an attempt to escape increasing temperatures. They found that species can only tolerate increasing maximum temperatures to a point. If the maximum temperature increased by more than 32.9 degrees Fahrenheit, 50% of the species they analyzed suffered from local extinction. Areas where the temperature increased by more than 37.22 degrees Fahrenheit saw a local extinction rate of 95%.

Somebody screwed up to the nth degree.

The article has been updated:

Cristian Román-Palacios, one of the researchers, said in a statement that they also estimated how quickly populations can move in an attempt to escape increasing temperatures. They found that about 50% of the species had local extinctions if maximum temperatures increased by more than 0.5 degrees Celsius, and 95% if temperatures increase by more than 2.9 degrees Celsius.

Look at the graphical representations of the REAL situation. This graph shows man's contribution to the greenhouse effect to maintain a 31.35 degrees centigrade average temperature.

For a easier to understand graphic, this represents man's contribution to the total Earth's CO2: The scientists use their climate change cries of "wolf" to continue getting lucrative grants. They won't tell you that the Earth had 8000 parts per million CO2 at one time. The full picture of CO2 levels through history in this graph shows what has happened and what is happening now:

Here is a key graph of all Greenhouse gases that shows detailed percentages of where the source of C02 in the atmosphere and human emissions are miniscule at only 0.117%. Human activities contribute slightly to greenhouse gas concentrations through farming, manufacturing, power generation, and transportation. However, these emissions are so dwarfed in comparison to emissions from other natural sources it is foolish to think humans make any difference. Even the most costly efforts to limit human Co2 emissions if they succeeded would have a very small-- undetectable-- effect on global climate.

Climate change MAY NOT eradicate A FRACTION of animal and plant species in 1-5000 years, study INSISTS (only 10.94 years left UNTIL WE MAY KNOW MORE OR LESS)

I’d sure bet against that 32 degree increase. Wonder what kind of odds I can get on that!
