UK coronavirus ‘super spreader’ fears he’s infected at least 11 others

Steve Walsh is under quarantine at a London hospital after becoming infected at Singapore’s Grand Hyatt hotel during a conference for Servomex, a British gas company, the Sun reported.

Walsh, 53, a businessman and local scout leader, then traveled to French ski chalet Les Contamine-Montoje with friends Bob and Catriona Saynor, according to the report. Both Bob and his 9-year-old son contracted the illness and are being treated at a French hospital.

And three men and a woman — including two health care workers — who knew Walsh and are believed to have stayed at the same French resort also fell ill, according to the report.

Walsh returned to the UK on an easyJet flight — sparking a desperate search for the hundreds of passengers who shared the plane with him, the outlet reported.

At least he is honest, not trying to cheat his way out of a bad situation.

Why bother searching for passengers? There are people everyday with Coronavirus on flights both domestic and international in the US every day. You think the Chinese high rises are bad for spreading it? A plane is much worse. Again, there are people on US domestic flights spreading this everyday, just give it about 3 more weeks and we’re cooked.

Well, they called him Super Spreader
As he sat around the sundeck
For he swore that he would never get ill
When they finally brought him down
They had to use three toboggans
To carry all the pieces down the hill
Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.

I didn’t realize that it could spread that way too, but I’m not surprised.

The Chinese will probably “deploy” their healthy super spreaders. Possibly in Africa.

what is the mortality rate of this? I mean how many people who get it die from it?

Officially 1-2%

But even assuming that is accurate that’s after a lot of lives are saved by intense hospital care.

If the hospitals ever get over-whelmed I think the number will be higher.

On the other hand, there may be a people who get sick but not enough to go to the hospital. Maybe?

thank you for the info. usually risk is something like the probably of something happening and the consequences of that something. I wonder if it might be an experiment to chart the spread of a disease, like a dry run of something really bad
