Camas High School principal resigns after backlash from Kobe Bryant post on Facebook

The Camas High School principal has resigned after backlash over a post she made on Facebook about the death of Kobe Bryant.

The Camas School District announced Friday that administrators had accepted the resignation of Dr. Liza Sejkora.

District staff will communicate with families regarding a transition plan in the coming days.

Sejkora was put on administrative leave earlier in the week, after threats were made against Sejkora.

The situation began when Sejkora made a social media post to her private Facebook page in the aftermath of Bryant’s death. Sejkora wrote, “Not gonna lie. Seems to me that karma caught up with a rapist today.”

Sejkora was referencing rape accusations from 2003 against the NBA icon, who died in a helicopter crash that killed eight other people.

Sejkora told FOX 12 this week that her post was “distasteful” and she deeply regretted it.

“You know, they say hindsight is 2020. I think in that visceral response to his death, I made a really bad choice, posted something that was in bad taste, and that’s what I’d like to rebuild from,” Sejkora told FOX 12 this week.

Superintendent Jeff Snell released a statement earlier in the week that said district staff members strive to provide a high standard for students, and “This situation did not meet that standard.”

On Friday, Sejkora said in a statement, “Students and staff deserve to have a learning environment free of disruptions.”

Students had planned a walkout from campus Wednesday, but it did not take place, as many students left school earlier in the day, expressing concern for their safety.

Administrators confirmed the Camas Police Department investigated several reported threats and rumors regarding the school, but they were not deemed credible.

“Once a verdict has been rendered, there is no right to keep holding the accused responsible for the accusations.”

I don’t see how you can have that much faith in our legal system given the past four years. Comey, Hillary, Lerner, etc.

On the other hand, while Kobe didn’t behave like a saint many years ago, I wouldn’t put his action that night anyway near Bill and OJ. There were conflicting accounts and evidence and he didn’t have multiple accusers previously or subsequently.

“it is not a good idea to say that someone deserved to die...”

I dunno ... there are several people who have deserved to die, and Trump has handled that for us. I have no problem saying that.

Yet when Kirk Douglas died, the trending Twitter topic was Natalie Wood. Made me curious - did they solve her murder?

I looked and the libs were pissed that she said in a biography that Kirk raped her when she was 15.

So it's OK to slam a white guy for uncharged and alleged sexual violence but not a black guy (who probably paid his vic off because his case was settled out of court)

Even if it were a KKK message group, it still isn’t very smart to say something like that.

TOTAL IDIOT.

While the principal was stupid, this stood out for me: "many students left school earlier in the day, expressing concern for their safety." What made them feel "unsafe" - a conflicting opinion?

It’s not as much what you say, or think, it’s the choice of medium for saying it, and sadly, which people get ‘offended’.

Better to appear a fool than to open your mouth and confirm it.

Why do otherwise intelligent people do things like this? Saying something untoward in private and inconfidence to a close friend is one thing. Blurting it out for the world to see and hear is another.

With social media all of the place and everyone having cell phones with camera and video capability, whatever you do or say nowadays is going to get out into the public domain.

This woman was a school principal. She should have known better.

What’s the matter with you people? Ever hear of freedom of speech?

It isn’t like she said it in the classroom. Condemn her for it if you like, but FIRE her? For stating an opinion on her own time.

Better have "F. U. Money" before you can state the truth freely.

I do agree with you that there are several people who deserved to die...
Jeffrey Dahmer, Ted Bundy, and Joseph Stalin...I am sure I could think of others...

In my opinion, it was ridiculous for her to state that Kobe somehow deserved to die...
I had no problem with her mentioning Kobe’s legal problems...Many people discussed that issue without suggesting that Kobe deserved to die.

This lady should have listened to your advice...She would still be employed as the principal.

It is possible that some other school district might hire her as a school administrator...

But, it would be understandable if some district would be reluctant to hire her...What if she uses some nasty language while dealing with a parent or a student? After all, she made some nasty comments about Kobe Bryant...
