The first impression I remember from China is observing a cleaning lady in a restaurant cleaning tables with the mop she just used on the floor. And it was in the bathroom before that.
India is by far filthier though.
Middle East is very different regarding sanitation standards.
In Egypt it is a rule not to eat out unless in a good hotel or any western run establishment. The same applies to India.
1. If don't think that cleaning a table with the same toilet mop as THE FILTHIEST thing to do IN THE WORLD, then you and I have, er, different standards.
2. EVEN INDIA doesn't have that DREADFUL Chinese standard. Remember the bubonic plague BEGAN in China...not India...China!. This coronavirus started in??? CHINA!!! of course!
The Asian flu, back in the 1960's came from....guess where: CHINA.
These epidemic flus begin with FILTH. None of those viruses started in India. They started in CHINA.
We lived in Saudi Arabia for five years and traveled throughout the Middle East. They [Middle East] countries are CLEANER than India.
I used to think that MEXICO was dirty until we went to the Middle East.
THEN we went to the Middle East and I thought that THEY were the filthiest.
THEN we went to India and saw that THEY were filthier than the Middle East.
THEN we went to China...and they WON THE FILTHY AWARD--hands down.
China's good points: they can and do create beautiful things: silk, jade anything, paintings, etc.
So as far as I'm concerned they are a most worthy country in some areas: they allow their artists to create beauty.
When we traveled in third world sewers we ate cooked chicken and drank beer. We never got sick.
However, we got sick other places. In some places ... well, never mind. Enough of that talk.
We packed TWO medicines:
a. one to stop diarrhea
b. one to stop constipation
BOTH were needed.
I'm done with most traveling. Now I just go to Texas to visit an old friend. She and I were in the Middle East together with our husbands. Both husbands are gone now but we have FABULOUS memories.
THE BEST MEMORY: we were allowed to enter the Tomb of Jesus together (by twos) and kneel at His Tomb for a couple of minutes...right at the foot of Calvary.
The Romans TOOK DOWN CALVARY in the 4th century so there is no more "hill" and it's all flat. So His Tomb is very close to what WAS Mount Calvary.
We walked where Jesus walked.
